How do you "find" good music in this internet era?

Datpiff, for example, has over 30 YEARS worth of music uploaded. More music gets loaded than there are hours in a day. Im pretty sure following blogs is a similarly full time job

So can someone tell me how you can "find" good music in any other way than just being lucky?

Prolly because you are searching for "good" music on a website called DatPiff :rudy:

Good is subjective anyway...what you think is good is prolly a piece of shyt to most of us....listen to more than just the same 10 albums or artists and you'll have good music.

Back in the day you could turn on the radio and hear the best rap had to offer all day every day.

This is patently false :pachaha:

Radio stations that even primarily play rap at all is a fairly modern creation..."back in the day" urban radio was still dominated by rnb and the hip hop that did make it into regular hourly rotation was the most commercial radio friendly rap hits of the day...if you wanted to hear the "joints", your ass had to wait for that maybe 1 or 2 hours out of the whole day (during rush hour or at like 10 at night) when DJs were given free reign to mix...it ain't like you could turn on the radio in 1994 10am on a random Wed. morning and hear hours worth of random Illmatic cuts or Common's Resurrection and shyt

What WAS actually on the radio in 1994? Well let's look at the charts from back then and take a gander at reality instead of relying on cliched nostaglic bullshyt shall we:

Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs : Jun 25, 1994 | Billboard Chart Archive

Out of the 25 biggest songs on urban radio at this of the year in 1994, there were only THREE rap songs and those 3 songs were

Warren G - Regulate
Da Brat - Funkdafied
Heavy D- Got Me Waiting

Which are songs that I love...but would you consider those 3 tracks to be wholly representative of "the best rap had to offer" at the time? :mjpls:

theres no such thing as ''underground'' with the internet. i remember someone putting me up on rich homie quan mixtape, i liked it, week later their was a big thread on here about it from another poster. Basically anything dope is gonna rise to the surface, there isn't some great mixtapes out there just waiting to be discovered, if there are you'll read about them here

Not exactly, alot of it does end up surfacing, but there is always things that are dope that people end up sleeping on. It's just the way it is, how many album/mixtapes do you see that you just ignore clicking on because you've never heard of the artist? We all do it from time to time.

I managed to come across Yellah Nino music by accident on youtube lookin for Young Dro music and felt :blessed:....go to datpiff and can't find his mixtape:wtb:,asked his dj to upload it and he said he would but never did:wtb:....find out he in jail for probation violation and bein investigated for a driveby:wtb:...u can stumble across sum good music by luck like threadstarter said, but if the person ain't serious about music or don't have the means u scroungin for scraps and low quality soundin shyt:why:..or they get u hyped for nuthin and end up goin to jail or go get a day job cuz thy got mouths to feed and the rap shyt ain't workin quik enuff.

Forums do put u on to shyt early, like shyt that might be hot in other regions that ain't spread yet.....like I remember dudes talkin bout Future before he blew nationally as well as drake....but they wuz so hot locally we wuz gon hear about them eventually anyway.

Op is right its a bullshyt statement overall, and I guess just our egos assuming people gon like that underground extra local shyt u listening to.

Even if there's nothing out "now", go back and listen to some music from 2012 or 2011 that you didn't listen to. Plenty of dope albums came out last year that you might've missed. That's how I discovered Danny Brown and Mr. MFN Exquire.
