This is patently false :pachaha:

Radio stations that even primarily play rap at all is a fairly modern creation..."back in the day" urban radio was still dominated by rnb and the hip hop that did make it into regular hourly rotation was the most commercial radio friendly rap hits of the day...if you wanted to hear the "joints", your ass had to wait for that maybe 1 or 2 hours out of the whole day (during rush hour or at like 10 at night) when DJs were given free reign to mix...it ain't like you could turn on the radio in 1994 10am on a random Wed. morning and hear hours worth of random Illmatic cuts or Common's Resurrection and shyt

What WAS actually on the radio in 1994? Well let's look at the charts from back then and take a gander at reality instead of relying on cliched nostaglic bullshyt shall we:

Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs : Jun 25, 1994 | Billboard Chart Archive

Out of the 25 biggest songs on urban radio at this of the year in 1994, there were only THREE rap songs and those 3 songs were

Warren G - Regulate
Da Brat - Funkdafied
Heavy D- Got Me Waiting

Which are songs that I love...but would you consider those 3 tracks to be wholly representative of "the best rap had to offer" at the time? :mjpls:
U arguing points nobody made

And ur still wrong :pachaha:

U seriously gonna sit here and pretend like Biggie, Snoop, Jay, Pun, Outkast, Wu Tang didn't have #1 rap singles in the 90s? And u wanna talk about revising history :biggapls:

Even if there's nothing out "now", go back and listen to some music from 2012 or 2011 that you didn't listen to. Plenty of dope albums came out last year that you might've missed. That's how I discovered Danny Brown and Mr. MFN Exquire.

Dawg u still dont get my point. There was more music in 2011 & 2012 that came out than there were hours to live in 2011 & 2012. So where the fukk do I go to find what was GOOD in 2011 & 2012? Radio/Billboards have a lot of bullshyt and politics, internet has too much music to go through, green board is 404 status. If I am a young nikka looking to find some rap to listen to, and I don't have a high speed internet connection, where would you tell me to start???

Op is right its a bullshyt statement overall, and I guess just our egos assuming people gon like that underground extra local shyt u listening to.
nikkas like "i found so and so on the internet"

No nikka

So and so found you

You just happened to be in the right place at the right time... theres no viable system or strategy to consistently find good music. Partially cause the quality of the best out is in decline, but mainly cause theres just too much bullshyt to sort through. Datpiff & Worldstar are brilliant ideas. Charge a nikka a couple hundred dollars and now hes famous :mjpls: But then as fans we pay the price by not having any objective outlets

I don't know what to recommend because I don't know what you listen to. Google some "Best of" lists.

Lol if I already have artists I listen to why would I be looking for new ones?

Jesus fukking Christ, you bytch about no good music to find, but when someone suggests some places to look, you bytch about not wanting to listen to new artists. Just sit in the corner somewhere, play with yourself, and let the grown folks enjoy their music.

yo man, check out:

1. 2 Dope Boyz - peep the occasional video, song, mixtape or EP and you'll find some good stuff. they do a weekly mix of new music I think too which would be good for you.

2. This Is 50 - especially the music videos and Jack Thriller interviews

3. Hip Hop DX - especially the album reviews

4. The Coli - especially the booth of course.

5. keep an eye in who your favorite producers are working with and favorite artists are collabing with.

That should help you to eat good.

To give you an example of good music out there that doesn't get heard much, using the above I've enjoyed recent music from the following artists and a LOT more:

Smoke DZA - check out Rugby Thompson and High Times and more
Dom Kennedy - check out the Yellow Album and From The Westside 2
ASAP Rocky - not a secret anymore but his mixtape was crazy
David Dallas - check out his recent EP that sampled a funk band from the UK
Currency - again not a secret anymore but all his projects are dope
Lil Ugly Mane - his album Mista Thug Isolation is crazy dope
Freddie Gibbs - this dude is amazing. peep all his stuff.
Domo Genesis - Alchemist produced a mixtape with him and he's dope
Blu - this breh is amazing too. lots of projects to check out
Schoolboy Q - his last album was one of my favorite albums ever
Brotha Lynch Hung - did you know he dropped a DOPE trilogy?
Pusha T - last mixtape was crazy
Roc Marciano - this dude is COLD breh. check him out
Black Milk - like Dilla but a much better rapper
Evidence - dude has some banging albums

I could go on forever about dope music to check out but the above should get you started breh

Dead End Hip Hop is good for reviews too, I co-sign most of the stuff you listed. There was a lot of dope shyt that dropped last year. One of the best years Hip Hop has had in a long time. This year is picking up steam

Depends on your tastes.

I got nothing for respect for the DEHH dudes. But with rap albums - most of them have a very specific taste. You can tell what they will and won't like by the artist.

For me - I can get into a lot of music. Best thing to do is look at stuff you like and work backwards - who inspires them? At the moment i'm peeling through the early 3-6 catalogue as I like some of SGP production.

Prince has a ton of albums. I love Sign of The Times, Purple Rain is aight but i'm sure I can love another of his records. SO i'm peeping Controversy, 1999 etc.

But even just hip-hop. Thee's 30+ years of different regions and artists out there.

I don't check for new hip-hop artists out very much but i'm okay with that.
