There wasn't a "west coast" sound back in those days..... the west coast so-called sound was ELECTRO FUNK until Dr. Dre broke away to make hip hop beats. And the only template to use was from the east coast. The west coast defining sound was when ATL and popularized by Dr. Dre created G-Funk.... other than that... rap music was rap music regardless of region. It was only in the early 90's where West was leaning more towards FUNK and East leaning more towards JAZZ.
