In his latter years his matches were just chops, getting thrown off the top rope, eye gauges, low blows, begging for mercy, walking around and flopping and figure fours.... .
SCOTCH HALL AIN'T ON THE NATURE BOY'S LEVEL

Part of it is era too. When Flair was on the come up and having his best matches you weren't getting to see every single match of his. They were catered to traveling from town to town, so you could wrestle the same match every night since the fans in the building that night had never seen it. So it would be hard for him to adjust to that as he got older he probably didn't adjust to the fact that people have way more access to previous matches and can see it's the same match. Still as formulaic as Flair could be he still always entertained.
Once he became NWA champion (early 80s), the guy traveled city to city wrestling very good to great 40-60 minute matches, about 20 times per month, for close to 10 years. He was well in his 30s-early40s during this period. Its one of the more amazing sustained feats of athletic endurance in history. Dissecting his actual work, there were a million flaws to his in ring ability of course, but when people talk about Flair's greatness they are mainly talking about his inhuman motor. In ring, Flair had his formula but his "flair" for the dramatics was unrivaled, and still is.
Flair was a great worker, just under par ring psychology. But his cartoonish antics are mimicked to this day and they added to his... Flair
