First off, the term "lyrical miracle" is some internet shyt.

I mean...."Wu-Tang Forever" was a #1 album in 1997 that sold 4 mill and the lead single is "Triumph", a 6 minute song with no hook. :dead:

You couldn't be too lyrical in the 90's. What is now considered lyrical miracle was the shyt that rose with the internet. Super underground, 18 syllables per bar type shyt with no soul or rhythm.

As far as Canibus, he was considered as dope as anyone else out at the time. Which again....it was the 90's.

The problem was, his debut album was a dud. After that he kinda faded into the underground.

Its sad too cause I thought the 2000 BC album was a way better representation of what he could do but people were over him by the time. I still remember going to his website (I think it was just canibus.com) where he had 100 bars up and running that back nonstop. For me though that weird Eminem phase is what killed of his career. That shyt was straight embarrassing.

He messed up Rollin with Wyclef.. was never a good fit for his style if his second album comes out first we have a different career.

Worst possible team up in hip hop. I don't understand what he was thinking.

He should have had a first album with production from Primo, Pete, etc. Bis never seemed like he really understood what he should be doing. He needed someone to help him put together an album but not Wyclef.

I somewhat kept up with him after his debut. But in the back half of the 90's/early 00's lyrics started to matter a bit less and the lane he was in (semi-underground) was full of rappers like him. So he wasn't wack or anything but he just kinda....blended in and was largely forgotten about.

I remember seeing an ad for his fake Stan diss or whatever the hell that was, I think in the Source. I thought he was on drugs heavy at the time.

Not saying he was, but that's the 1st thought that popped into my head.

Nah when Canibus first came out, he was the nicest MC I ever heard in my life I thought. I thought he was like Rakim on steroids. I thought it was the highest level of MCing you could ever reach. The shyt he was saying had my 13 year old brain all fukked up lol.

Incredible lyrically but always felt he was a bit overrated as people underestimate the importance of flow, voice and general style. Canibus would wow me lyrically but it wasn’t a joy listening to him for long periods

Flow, voice and style also crucial to being an elite MC. To me Canibus just came across a bit awkward on the mic when you compare to other top pedigree rappers that some put him up there with

I actually thought mixtape Canibus had an incredible flow and voice that peaked with his first album. It's after that when he switched to the mathematical scientific Canibus that his flow started getting choppy and his voice got annoying

Yo! I speak at frequencies dogs would have trouble hearin'
Canibus is the lyrical version of German engineering
Raw metaphors keep you high for months
Fly around the earth twice without refuelin' once
Ain't too many categories I can fit in when it comes to spittin'
'Cause I'm over-qualified for the position
The laser-guided lyrical hybrid
Creatin' scripts so sick, I gotta arm-wrestle my pen to write it
Don't get excited, 'cause if I ever catch one of you wannabes bitin'
We gonna be fist-fightin'
So motherfukkers, what you want? I got the shotgun pumped
You feel like a frog, nikka, then jump
I possess the lyrical ammo to battle
And rip any one of you warm-blooded mammals to shambles
I'll make examples of you and eat a mouthful of your crew
The type of MC you can't outdo
I'll battle you on the 'net, I battle you in the flesh
I'll battle you over the phone, you can call me collect
I'll battle you for the respect, I'll battle you over a blank check
I'll battle you with a gun to my neck
I'll battle you standin' over the toilet with my dikk out
I'll battle you jugglin' a hand-grenade with the pin out
In a stolen car with the VIN number ripped out
Drinkin' a Guinness stout, doin' a 360 spin-out

Canibus when he first came out is the most incredible spitter I've ever heard...excluding NOBODY.

Canibus is the only MC to ever have a better verse than Pun on the same track, he was a great mc but terrible songwriter.

He needed a a&r/executive producer to steer his projects in the right direction with beats and hooks written by other people. Choosing to roll with Wyclef over Def Jam/Ruff Ryders or even Bad Boy was a awful decision.
