A lot of Utilities jobs are apprenticeships that will hire/train people off the street. I had no clue about water distribution but I applied and I’m now licensed.

Wastewater is the same. Most counties and cities are constantly hiring. After you’re licensed there are federal water jobs, private jobs, contract jobs etc.

This is false. Many factors exist beyond your efficiency at work. Entire industries have been killed off that had little to do with how well they performed the job.

For sure. Good point. I guess I was thinking more micro than macro. There is no such thing as job security if you are in a dead or dying industry. Even if you are excellent at your job or in a public sector union.

Automation is coming for majority of sectors in the near future. If your job cant be automated, youre alot safer than everyone else.

Yup. Lots of people don't realize how far along automation is. I'm in sales and I can do more with a chatbot and email templates than I could with two BDRs under me 10 years ago.

I would love to do water treatment or waste water

Look around at local counties, municipalities websites in your area. They always need people, once you start getting your licenses the more pay you get etc.

I have state benefits, only work 15 days out the month. The rotating shifts every two weeks sucks, but its legit the easiest money I've ever made.
