Why are you ignoring that this whole thing is about winning an NBA ring? He doesn't want a ring from China, from Europe, or a fictional league that doesn't exist yet. He doesn't even really care about simply being in the league, because there are plenty of teams that will take him as a threat coming off of the bench.

Melo was not a scapegoat in OKC though. He was just irrelevant, and everybody knew it. Was anything even expected of him going into the playoffs that year?
