He wants to bring the ball up and shoot jumpshots, does he not? He tries to fill that "stretch 4" role, at times. I do watch the games, but every time I watch, I say why is he trying to bring the ball up? I watched maybe 10 Cavs games this year. Of course, he didn't play in all of them, so a lot of what I say is from last year. Why is he trying to handle the ball? Why is he tryna pass like Draymond? Occasionally, he'll score on from a post position, but the rest is rolling and putbacks. But he's not really a defensive guy either. He's not really a shotblocker, and he's what 6-10/6-11, but plays defense on the perimeter. Jarret Allen is probably their best defender, at least from a big man, and he's not really a shotblocker either. And they are mostly identical in frame, defensive styles, rebounding ability.
So how do you use him? What position does he play? Is he a stretch 4? Is he going to play down low? Is he a screen/roller, and if so, what do you do with Jarrett Allen? JB has been the coach Mobley's entire time there, and when y'all were calling him a bright spot rookie year, to now say he's not being used correctly, when he plays the exact same way. AND if he's a defensive hub, that's on him to make his presence felt. I'm old school. No matter how you're being used on offense, no one can affect your defensive tenacity. I think Jarrett shows more effort there.
And then there's the problem of Donovan & Garland. The roster doen't fit. You have 2 combo guards in the backcourt, and 2 lanky bigs, but at least Jarrett doesn't shoot Js. He knows where role lies.
