I honestly don't buy into the veracity of the "Love's defense is severely hurting their chances against the Warriors" trope.
What we saw against the Warriors is firepower is the only way they may be de-throned. No one will stop this team defensively, unless you have Kawhi, Lebron, Davis, Giannis and Conley on the same team -
that's not happening.
If the Cavs move on from Love,
I'd implore them to acquire the type of players who get locked in and salivate at the chance to take those important shots in crunch time. On any other team in any other era, I'd consider J.R Smith a headache but he's actually a commodity against this warriors team because he's not going to be thinking about the headlines of tomorrow's sports blogs if he chooses to take the important shots. For that reason alone, I love him on the Cavs.
Now, of course you want your aggressive players to be smart also - so I'm not necessarily suggesting that they need offensive firecrackers with J.R's BBIQ but they need the guy who has a "I pick things up and put them down" simple attitude when that ball is in their hands and they are in position to score.
If not for anything else, that's my issue with Love - he appears about as timid as Lamarcus Aldridge out there sometimes.
