That's the thing people don't get. And why people that unnecessarily hate on LeBron look so silly. He's had that pressure since he was 15/16 and he met/exceeded expectations. The only modern examples that are even remotely comparable in sports are Tiger Woods and Serena Williams.

Breh, I guarded Kevin Durant on two possessions when he was at UT. When I tell you this nikka literally did some DBZ shyt when he went past me, I mean it. I blinked and he was literally two steps past me.

Hell, I saw Brandon Jennings play in high school and dude looked like a goddamn superhuman. Dude was out here pulling up from 35 feet, leaving dudes in the dust, hitting dance moves, and throwing down windmills.

Nah, I'm not a great baller or anything. We was just running pickup on the basketball courts at UT and KD popped up to run a bit. We'd see a couple of college ballers and stuff but this was the first time I ever saw a top tier prospect in person on the court.

Gotta remember at the time Bron was still a product of media hype so the players were probably tired of hearing about him by then. He was a big story for casual fans but the "serious" basketball minds weren't lining up to say how great he was.

Also this was the heart of the "NBA = Thugs" era. The perception of straight outta high school players was still mostly negative (despite reality). Especially a young tatted up hoodlum who was calling himself The King...

I actually think lebron was the most sure thing pick since shaq. The expectation was you got lebron or shaq and you would be a contender in a year or two.
