Hov breaking down on the radio, Dame Dash knowing not to call him for a few weeks after it dropped, Memphis Bleek refusing to even act like the song dropped AND the City voted Ether and Nas the winner in the battle.

Charlemagne was in South Carolina when this was going down in the city. He can go into all the technical explanations he wants in hindsight, WHEN That song dropped it was explosive to the Roc.

Philly primetime radio was running the shyt out of Ether.

@FTBS

lol. you messed up the quote too. prolly my fault.

im not arguing. i dont know. im just saying that its possible that he did it in 3 months. the live version of takeover was out all summer anyway, so thats really a 6 month differential between takeover and stillmatic.

nah. that whole nastradamus album got thrown in the bushes immediately. thats why everybody thought nas was done. otherwise, jay wouldnt have felt comfortable enough to go at him the way he did.

jay is a spot-picker. he has a way with dissin people and things(i.e. prodigy, jerseys, etc) when he sees that theyre on their last legs, or at least thinks that they are(nas, autotune). sometimes it works out perfectly for him, sometimes it backfires. most people thought nas was done.

It Was Written was underwhelming compared to the best album OAT? and this was 2 years later Illmatic started to finally garner that respect. But since you posting this in 2014, you definitely can't deny the quality of Illmatic, its hard to get on that level and he still dropped a classic anyway. Plus I Am had GOAT potential if the thing wasn't leaked

Its not about the sales its about the quality.

And as far as the quality its kind of arguable :itsalright:

Illmatic was hot. I personally like IWW, but the general consensus at the time is that it was underwhelming after Illmatic.
And after that Nas didnt drop a anything in comparison until Stillmatic (which obviously came out after takeover)

"2 of them shyts was doo, one was ehhhh (IWW) the other was Illmatic".

Id say its pretty accurate:ehh:

Nas was never in it for the business. He was in it for the art and music.

Jay Z is on a neverending never satisfied chase for money and power and to this day is still on albums begging people to love him.

Thats failure to me:yeshrug:

I wont try to rewrite history, popular opinion is Nas won and even though I think Takeover is the better diss song in terms of Jay having some crazy concepts and the amount of true disrespect and vulgarness of it:mjcry:....Nas starts off cryin about Jay turning his back on em and betraying him like they was homies and business partners:dahell:? THen you get jokes about his mustache and bein ugly even though he fukked ya bytch:dahell:?

Then theres that black cloud over either, not really a cloud since not many people think so..but I feel like one great day Jaz will come out and tell us just how much he played a part in writing this song:mjcry:....some of the bars in Ether just sound like its from Jaz perspective verses it being from Nas...but that aside I will say Nas basically took a page out of Jays book and beat Jay Jay by performing Ether in the same disrespectful downtalking tone Jay made famous at the time.

Jayz coming back with SUperUgly so quick just looked desperate and they surprise and hype of Ether hadn't died down yet....the fact he took Jay out of his ice cold persona he built for himself and reply so quick outta desperation like he cared makes you have to give it to Nas...even though im sure he cared his persona at the time says he was supposed to act like he didnt....im not even mad at folks givin it to Nas like that no more, but I refuse to let you coward Nas fans rewrite history and act like Jay got washed:scust:....That one Takeover verse alone:banderas:

:what:

What makes u think jay z aint in it for the art and music

Jay has just as much songs voicing his love for the art as Nas

U just interpret Jay's intentions as purely for money because Jay's music only speaks about himself

Like I said...

Nas signing under the nikka that came on ur daughter's baby seat and left condoms there is a loss as a man

Jay has a lovely wife and kid with that wife, a normal stable situation

while Nas has a child with a thot and another child with a racc00n face broad that left him and had him tryna remove face tattoos of her on his arm

That man lost in every way possible

so u interpret that line as him having no love for the art? :what:

u do know its possible to have the audience' tastes in mind while preserving ur integrity and love for art right??

U do know all artists in all genres do this?
