Also, growing up in the hood means you were poor, your parents were poor. Why were your parents poor? Most likely systemic oppression which led to your parents not being educated. Keeping it funky, your parents were probably caught up in poor mentality prevalent among our people. Such as school dropout or substance abuse.

Thus, saying you're from the hood without the sugar, is saying your parents weren't bout shyt. In this game of capitalism.

When he says "fukk the hood" he's referring to the pedastal blacks attempt to place it on. We're the only group who wears that shyt like it's a badge. We're the only ones who make it out and THEN choose to just hang out there. Not doing so to eradicate the mentality but just "hang" there because it's cool.

You don't see white CEO'S hanging in the trailer parks or even lower middle income neighborhoods they come from? They don't attempt to make their hellish environment seem cool.

The minute we started celebrating crossing over/mainstream success giving people outside the hood a voice in the culture, hip hop was doomed. This was inevitable but it's still a hard pill to swallow. I'm truly amazed that we have people that hold positions of power within hip hop saying "fukk the hood" and fans cosigning him. Again tho, this is the result of allowing people outside of the "hood"(black community) hold weight within the culture. Next thing you know we gone have em saying that a white rapper is the goat.......oh wait.

Cats have exploited the hood thru hiphop to the point where it's nothing else to be made so now it's fukk the hood. Imagine somebody in This clown's position saying this 15-20 years ago.
