Could've been an accident...A helpful person walked up to let them know their headlights were on, used their gun to reach out and push the headlight button, accidentally pulled the trigger and then panicked before stumbling over the peoples clothes and hitting the trigger a few more times.

Since y'all hate whores and would consider the woman in the story a whore, having her to suffer a lifetime of emotional trauma after seeing her lover get killed and dealing with the aftermath of consequences would be more of a punishment for her than herself getting killed (which would be the easy way out).
