I am not even going to look it up, but the drill era probably wasn't even worse than the 1920s, 30s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

I’ve never felt unsafe walking around in Chicago.
Memphis on the other hand.![]()
I had this debate with a family memberAs someone who actually lives in Chicago, the actual murder/shooting numbers are lower than they were back in the 70s-90s (but they have risen in recent years compared to the 2000s). However back then, it was moreso in specific areas. Now it’s more random where it can happen. A lot more “this never happens in this area” stories than in the past.
Also, people are surviving gunshots more than in years past because of medical advancements. I remember the story about HS basketball legend, Ben Wilson. They say it’s possible he could’ve survived, but there was no trauma center in the area, and as a result, he died from his gunshot wounds.
The latest stuff I could find on the homicide rate doesn't even have Chicago in the top 20.This is why you should look it up
Over 20 US cities broke their all time murder rate during the drill era. Certain cities: Philadelphia, Memphis, & Baltimore just off the top of my head broke their all time murder rate in the last decade, records previously set in the crack era
No it’s not, Milwaukee, St Louis, Cleveland and Detroit are all much worse
what ?The latest stuff I could find on the homicide rate doesn't even have Chicago in the top 20.
