As someone who actually lives in Chicago, the actual murder/shooting numbers are lower than they were back in the 70s-90s (but they have risen in recent years compared to the 2000s). However back then, it was moreso in specific areas. Now it’s more random where it can happen. A lot more “this never happens in this area” stories than in the past.
Also, people are surviving gunshots more than in years past because of medical advancements. I remember the story about HS basketball legend, Ben Wilson. They say it’s possible he could’ve survived, but there was no trauma center in the area, and as a result, he died from his gunshot wounds.
