The issue is, the Bulls still have young players that they are still developing. This team has picked up project after project and hasn't completed any of them. Then you have Huerter who will play, I understand trading Lonzo, but not for another guy making more that doesn't have a team option. It just doesn't make sense.
You have guys like Dalen Terry and Julian Phillips already there that are younger than Okoro that you still are evaluating. Okoro takes minutes away from them as well as Matas. I doubt Essengue gets much burn so I won't mention him, but the Bulls have a lot of wings in that 6'5 to 6'7 range on their roster that are jockeying for minutes, it's confusing wtf is happening when trades like this are made.
Chicago's wings:
- Isaac Okoro 6'5
- Kevin Huerter 6'7
- Julian Phillips 6'8
- Dalen Terry 6'7
- Patrick Williams 6'7
I mean, this isn't exactly a great stockpile of talent to be proud about if you're Chicago. I'm not even including Ayo who definitely will get his fair share of minutes at the 3 alongside Coby and Giddey this season. Matas IMO projects to be a 3 as well.
Instead of bringing in ok young talent like Okoro, I'd rather they just continue to invest in what they already have to see who stays and goes. The way they're building this team is confusing.
He's a great point of attack defender, so he should get about 15-20 minutes just off that
But like I said if they use him that way and he puts up 2-5 shots a game he's gonna continue to just be a guy.
It's been years, and it's become clear he's not gonna make a leap from offseason work. The cavs were probably comfortable making this trade because he was never going to get the opportunity to improve on that team
I'll trust yall word that the Chicago front office sucks and there is probably no follow through
