Move back down to the south where you have the local numerical majority, direct access to the governing wheels of power, and a city tax base to improve your quality of life.
Or stay there "fight the good fight" and bicker wit white folks governing the city about their shyting on local black citizens.

:hula:
Their choice....

Why are they opposed to a library? Black people need to start placing more value on literacy in our community. :troll:
:troll:

But on a serious note that money could be used to invest in school to work programs, arts, music programs, mentorship.

School to work program for me in high school was life changing...for a breh who wasn't interested in school but wanted to work and learn skills to make a living.

breh that's still gentrification

just cause some black faces is pushing out some other ones and they have good credit, doesn't make it any better.

Yes the hell it does! Poor black people cannot support a community alone. They have no money to do so. This is why we have nothing but Arab and Koren owned stores because we don't have enough nikkas with an economic base to open black owned businesses.

This is how black communities use to look before intergration. Middle class, working class and even poverty level blacks all living in the same community. This an example where trickle down economics actually works.

A community of only poor people is a ghetto. And NO ONE actually wants to live in a ghetto.

This is a way better location on the southside, a big plot of vacant land(2-3 blocks)right by beach & park
This is the same land they was giving to amazon for their new location..

:dwillhuh:But they rather tear up a park & area that don't even need it...

then people would complain that it's not going to revitalize an area that is actually in need. that piece of land right there could be sold to developers tomorrow morning if the city wanted.

at the end of the day, the one thing i realized about chicago is that no matter where you go there will be a group of people that think they own that part of chicago and that unless you come to them on your hands and knees, they will do whatever they can to fuk up your plans. make no mistake about it, this type of shyt is really just the way that the politicians and other big wigs are able to essentially extort money from the library.

i actually am in some agreement with critics who say it's fukkd up to take what was a public golf course and turn it to a pro tournament caliber venue bc the greens fees etc will obviously increase. but you can make it so that chicago residents have additional rights/lowered fees.

but people are being ignorant as usual...mfers like friends of the park would rather have an empty park not creating any value for the community, than a place that brings money to the area and employs local residents.

People have been talking about the gentrification of the south side for years. It's NOT a thing. The south side, in fact, lacks a lot of the things that become the catalyst for gentrification such as density.
If there has been any type of gentrification in the area, it has been middle-class professional blacks, replacing lower income blacks. Lower income blacks are being pushed to the formally middle class black south suburban suburbs.

BREH, mfers LOVEEE to use that word without having ANY idea wtf they're talking about.

there was an article in the suntimes a while back about aldermna scott using some new city housing initiative fund to buy up abandoned houses near douglas park (north lawndale/west side), rehab them than sell them at below market interest rates to families that make below i believe 80K. in other words, basically trying to give young black families without a ton of money an opportunity to own a home in the city. every other comment was on some "they're trying to gentrify lawndale!!"

im thinking to myself these are some truly despicable people smh...

No it's not. Those middle class blacks who move in dont change the culture and antagonize the black ppl who were there before them. They usually grew up in a different low class neighborhood and move into an up and coming low income neighborhood. They also dont do everything in their power to get rid of the low income blacks. There is a sense of empathy

yall are not trying to hear me

the devolpers, councilmen and real estate people who push majority of the efforts in regards to gentrification

they then embed themselves with local “preservation” groups and other similar shyt. attractions like this library they jump all over as a chance for them to capitalize on an venture because of greed and not for the betterment of the community

the people moving in, are simply a smaller piece of a larger puzzle

and the whole “up and coming” and “arts districts” is just a cover for the eventual hikes in rent and eventually the prescenes of police officers suddenly becomes more apparent.

this isn’t a one size fits all situation and I am not saying black middle class people that aren’t from an area can’t move into a neighborhood they choose to

I’m just saying that as it gets to that point where many poor black folk were pushed out of an area to get to that point and that without universial rent control or a constant and resilient community fighting back, you’re gonna constantly have people being pushed out of places they and their family has called home for generations

Yes the hell it does! Poor black people cannot support a community alone. They have no money to do so. This is why we have nothing but Arab and Koren owned stores because we don't have enough nikkas with an economic base to open black owned businesses.

the only way to stop gentrification is to own where you live. if you're a renter the only way is to make sure your neighborhood isn't attractive and people with the means don't want to live there. anywhere obama decided to put his presidential library would eventually become more attractive aesthetically and attract more outside investment. so basically the argument is why is he putting it here?
