yall are not trying to hear me

the devolpers, councilmen and real estate people who push majority of the efforts in regards to gentrification

they then embed themselves with local “preservation” groups and other similar shyt. attractions like this library they jump all over as a chance for them to capitalize on an venture because of greed and not for the betterment of the community

the people moving in, are simply a smaller piece of a larger puzzle

and the whole “up and coming” and “arts districts” is just a cover for the eventual hikes in rent and eventually the prescenes of police officers suddenly becomes more apparent.

this isn’t a one size fits all situation and I am not saying black middle class people that aren’t from an area can’t move into a neighborhood they choose to

I’m just saying that as it gets to that point where many poor black folk were pushed out of an area to get to that point and that without universial rent control or a constant and resilient community fighting back, you’re gonna constantly have people being pushed out of places they and their family has called home for generations

How else will these communities be rejuvenated without a strong tax base? Black professionals moving back to the inner city is a W. Concentrated poverty leads to high crime and violence.

universal rent control so people ain’t spending half they check on rent

these same people also need to be paid a living wage that is at the COL standard

and the people who’ve lived their the longest need to be the runs running these local offices

there’s a reason why in our fight for survival economic and direct democracy need to be stressed with the utmost’s importance

Universal rent control is something that sounds good on paper but is horrible in real world applications. What it leads to is landlords that will try anything under the sun to evict people because they paying 500 bucks a month rent from a lease their grandmother signed back in '78. The landlords refuse to keep up repairs and make updates on a piece of property that people are paying a quarter of the going rate to stay there. Then the people in those rent controlled spots dont want the neighborhood surrounding them to improve because the rent in the new spots will increase and cause their landlord to once again become angry that he isnt getting market value for that property. So in the end you are left with tenants who dont want the neighborhood to improve and a landlord that is motivated keep conditions poor.

But back to the topic at hand. If Obama build the library in Hawaii or in an affluent area of Illinois folks would still be mad so he might as well build it where he wants and keep it moving.

Universial rent control can’t work because landlords are greedy pieces of shyt but let’s blame the tenants

basically what you said

No it's not. Those middle class blacks who move in dont change the culture and antagonize the black ppl who were there before them. They usually grew up in a different low class neighborhood and move into an up and coming low income neighborhood. They also dont do everything in their power to get rid of the low income blacks. There is a sense of empathy

This is my story and a lot of other people I know. I moved to Bronzeville from the west side 8 years ago. I was broke but I had enough sense to buy a condo when the market was down. My condo was $20k and I was paying a third of what people pay in rent. It's worth at least 5 times that in less than 10 years. Some of my neighbors are still paying that rent at higher and higher levels each year. It ain't even about gentrification as much as it's about people who make smart decisions with their money versus people who don't. Everyone on my block is black. A lot of the local businesses are black and I support them. It was the best decision I've ever made. Black communities need more blacks willing to invest in the community versus letting shyt stay the same. We're the only people that don't want to practice or take advantage of group economics.
