Name one elected democrat who advocated for people to be physically locked in their homes during covid. I'll wait. Given that the biggest scapegoat governors of so called authoritarian rule all won re-election earlier this month I think it's safe to say this issue has been decided and is over. The window for politicians to get blasted on this was 2020, 2021, and 2022.

China's problem is largely propaganda and obsession based IMO, and ultimately Xi deserves blame. China wanted this to be some major win where they solve covid, have zero cases, and everything is fine/dandy while the west struggles. In reality the west has largely moved on from covid and has a superior vaccine, while China is stuck in a constant loop of lockdowns because they never addressed the issue effectively from the jump and have an ineffective vaccine. Will Xi pay for it? Who knows. Probably not.

Lot of revisionist history here. No one was questioning the very first lockdowns. Once we got a several months in and there was nothing we can do at that point to eradicate Covid, the zero covid dumbasses here and all over still clamored for shutdowns so that everyone could be miserable at their home same as with their introverted socially awkward asses who were staying home all day anyways, costing hundreds of thousands of small businesses/careers and halting the development of children in some of their most important formative years. We had the political restrictive nonsense and mask theater well into 2021 in some states, which was complete idiocy when everyone should have said hold your own nuts, and either you get vaccinated and move on or you don’t get vaccinated and move on.

This being in TLR is funny because 99% of this section of the forum is fairly clueless when it comes to foreign policy.

But there has been some domestic discontent regarding the lockdowns for some time in China, which US intelligence has been desperately trying to inflate to lead to some kind of pseudo-civil war or government overthrow.

In reality, the “riots” are about the same size as the anti-mask “protests” in Wisconsin and Texas.

Considering the success of their public health story, the Chinese state just needs to get the food and public goods distributed more quickly.
