:snoop: You guys just don't get it.

He's clearly stating that he was chasing a dream, it turned into a nightmare, and he found the courage to walk away. Some guys reach their breaking point in college. Others reach their breaking point in the NFL. In what world do you have the right to tell someone when they should and shouldn't be ready to make such a huge decision?

Choosing to walk away from the game should never be looked down upon.

would agree, but becoming a whistle blower/activist after stepping away is :camby:

Football is in trouble though...I hate to say it, but unless some new great technology comes out these health issues will cripple the sport...the constant crimes committed by the players don't help either:mjpls:

football is dangerous, you dont need a scientist to tell you this :dahell:

Got 2 concussions in high school and i would still do the same if i had another chance, violence is fun :dahell:

These NFL nikkas know the deal :camby:
Every time I hit a nicca right my ears would ring and I would see white spots and stars. I LOVED that shyt :ahh:. If they had a tackle football league like the church basketball league I play in...:whew:...I would sign up for that shyt in a second. I been wanting to put a helmet on a nicca for 13 years :to:

what do you mean 'even if' ?
its a fact. inflation happens, and salaries grew by a ton. minimum wage grew 2.5 times during last 20 years.

you guys are so anal about the word 'lots' :heh:. yes it did not mean an average person. pro athletes are also not average people in the US.

my whole point was that to save a million or two in the bank like byron wanted, you dont have to be a football player or sports player in general. plenty (or lots :heh:) of people OTHER than athletes can do.

using your numbers, lets make it a top 1% of full employed population. that comes out to 1.2 million people. 1.2 million people in the us will retire with millions in their bank account. sure its a small % but that has nothing to do with my point.

But even those who retire with 1-2 million arent doing it by 30years old(like football players). they are doing it by 50-60years old.

My dude...most cats that play in the league don't get in any trouble. Most cats that retire from the game don't try to kill themselves or become crippled, hunched up shells of themselves. The media is going to focus on the exceptions, not the rule. I played football for 16 years straight (going back to PeeWee)...knocked heads and got my head knocked as a safety, RB and WR and I'm in perfect health...physically and mentally.

Nah. The health issues pertain to the players and them only. And they know and have known how dangerous the sport is. People have to start realizing that everybody's level of acceptable risk they will take in life is not the same. Yeah we know its dangerous, and many players LOVE that aspect of it. Also consider that for many of these guys this is their one and only way to make some real money. I know they are all supposed to have been "college students" but lets keep it real...if the NFL shut down tomorrow, there would be a lot of job applications turned in at McDonalds and Walmart later this week.

The sport is TOO loved to be in trouble. I got no problem with this guy leaving for health concerns. But we all know that while he's retiring, there are hundreds of guys that over the next couple weeks will be crying like babies after they get cut for a lost opportunity to play in this "barbaric sport".
