There is no such thing as a modern urban artist who has matured blueprint so he'd have to make it. This is the same thing that Abel is wrestling with as this isn't the old days where there were game plans of legends laid down you could trace as the game has changed and this is where so many artists are struggling to fit in and find progress via evolution without losing their fanbase and bricking.

Must be so wack as an artist in that sense to have to keep on dialing it in on a creative treadmill as you play it safe.

thats why Lucky Daye etc type male singers just drop fire ass EP's go on tour runs and just enjoy life.

I met Leon Bridges just on the humble a few months back and he was just saying yeah the tour life is cool and its OK if he doesn't like BLOW UP cause hes' got a core fanbase and thats OK.

R&B is stronger today than it was a decade ago. Streaming helped it with playlists etc. of course its not like chart topping but its stronger as CD sales fell off.

Since he started writing his own shyt he's basically stagnated unless one of his joints took off with an above average beat or feature.

I'm thinking HEAT with Gunna. I'm thinking NO GUIDANCE with Drake. etc. then he got some Afrobeats love...from the feature artist. Basically as a SOLO song guy he's not putting up the value like that anymore.

And I NEVER wanna hear an USHER comparison again either.

He's certainly able to score a hit once a year or so but the ROI just isn't there with his output.

Compared to a lot of the bubbling R&B artists and singers hes just not THAT guy anymore outside the ability nab a hit song.

Hell, even BLXST came through and changed the scene for a minute.

Trey Songz is weak vocally and only exists as an artists because the era he came up in was so weak.
That said I see no difference in him or CB other than image, they would both struggle because they were hyped by their looks, not vocal talent.

lol, Trey Songz isn't a writer or producer.
Chris Brown produces and writes songs, that is the difference.
Chris Brown, would be better served making songs for other people like Usher to be honest.
