Chapellles isn't funny in the moment to me. Sketches are dope. I don't sit there cracking up at his jokes off top.
Chris rock just isn't funny to me atvall.

Eddie Griffin is funny af tho.
His sketches are funny and costumes.

To me bill burr and Patrice the only two to have me litterally crawling laughing

You guys have to be kidding me. You see one 5 minute sketch and all of a sudden the trolls want to come out the cave. Chris Rock is nowhere as funny as Dave Chappelle. Rock has came out himself and basically said Dave is funnier. You crusty ass coli nikkas need to sit down and get out of your own world.

Kev the black Seinfeld, safe and do numbers but mediocre. I'll admit Kev's first two specials are good tho, not timeless but they get the job done.

What are some black timeless comedy specials in your opinion? When I think of timeless stand-up comedy specials, I have my gold standard: Eddie Murphy's - Raw.

So I ask, for my own edification, what are some stand-ups that be put in that tier, or maybe just a notch below it?

So Cal
Chapelle's show was better than chris rock show but that's it.

Rock got way way better movies and specials. Bring the pain, bigger and blacker, and never scared >>>>> killing them softly and for what is worth.

Dave Chappelle stand up is average as fukk. The Chappelle show made it where everybody overrated Chappeles overall skills. Who the fukk was talking about Dave Chappelle stand up BEFORE his show was on? Makes me think that HYPE is a major influencer when ppl rate comedy. See: Hannibal Burress
It's like people are programmed to laugh cause it's Dave Chappelle , that Bradley cooper shyt wasn't even funny and the audience all like :bryan:

Eddie Griffin? SERIOUSLY? He's like some random nikka that makes everybody in the hood laugh but I like my comedians to have a little more substance, dialog and direction than that. Plus, Katt destroys Eddie as far as being a hood comedian goes.

Chris and Dave are different. They definitely appeal to different tastes. Dave is the better comedian at making me laugh unsuspectingly where Chris's jokes are normally built to the laughter point by telling the story behind the joke. You can see the laugh coming through the story and it's still funny.

That was Dave using ironic humor, he spoke on it being beautiful to see a room full of black people in the white house for a party(sponsored by BET) and then mentioned Bradley Cooper being there too. You know how in some situations there's the 'token black' well with that Bradley had become the token white which was ironically funny to Dave but that really wasn't the point of his story. This transitioned into him talking about Fredrick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln then speaking on Roosevelt. Then he tied everything together.

Bradley Cooper being mentioned was the least important part of that, it was like a tension easing factoid of the story. Dave isn't up there just telling a bunch of jokes, him like other great comedians like to weave the jokes in while telling you something real.

Before Dave told the story he straight up said "Now this is not a joke but I think it's important that I say this." I time stamped the story.
