Claire Obscure 33 is the most overrated game in history

Ignoring the big Exp 33 stans. (Like nobody on this site would fall into that category)

Everything about this game and Sandfall is good for the industry. The game started at $50, a throwback to old-school FF games, but creates a blend of what we have in Western & Japanese RPGs by taking the best of both sides.

Gamers are just going to complain about anything these days

It don’t really have to be a “conspiracy theory”

It’s kinda like in music or politics. Coverage is very much influenced by connections and access.

Like seats at the awards cost thousands of dollars. The E33 team were able to buy multiple dozens of tickets.

It may not be straight up “pay to play” but when that much money is exchanging hands “fair” and “integrity” go out the window.

Like publishers that have the money are able to fly reviewers out and give them gifts, and take them to dinner with their families etc. Publishers that can’t afford it or don’t have the relationships just don’t get the same amount and quality of coverage.

E33 being a small cheap indie game sounds good. But then look at some of the voice talent, dev talent etc. Somebody with some big money and connections put a big push behind this game that other indies don’t get.

The game awards voting process is very lose. It’s just a bunch of people that call out a game. They don’t even have to claim to have played the games they vote against. It quite literally is a popularity contest, and when millions of dollars are being exchanged “popularity” isn’t really an integral measurement.

People played the game and liked it. Everything ain't for everyone.

A lot of people grew up playing JRPGs but grew out of them. This is a game that gave people who like that style of game a place to come back to. It's kinda like how a lot of people grew up watching Dragonball Z but they aren't gonna watch something like that today. If something came along that had some of the feel of DBZ but put it in a more palatable package removing the Shounen maybe they'd gush about that too.

How many of these people played Chained Echoes? That's a game I'd say is better than COE33 in story and difficulty. It's also more deeply in the style of a JRPG but a more mature story that subverts almost all JRPG story tropes. You go on Metacritic and Chained Echoes has nowhere near the number of reviews and never got the push this game did.

I played chained echoes. it was okay.

The story was def not better, just my opinion. Gameplay also left much to be desired.

I highly doubt it changes Square's mindset in approaching the series. FF has always been the series that took risks, even when it was turn-based. While Dragon Quest stayed as their traditional series.

Tbh FF issue should be pushing the series to the audience that grew up for them. Dragon Quest is the series for both the younger generation and those who want a game to relive what they played in their youth.

Im fine with them expanding on rebirths combat system. SE wants their games to be bombastic and they said the only thing that stopped them was limitations of gaming back in the day.

I remember specifically nomura saying somethign to that effect after advent children came out
