When the Jay-Z voting ends in some hours from now I will add those albums that cleared the 80% acceptance rate onto the OP of my initial thread.
So far, Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint are the two classics.
I don't see that changing breh.

Getting above three is tough. But there are a lot of examples of rappers/groups with three.

Some of these are debatable of course. @Inspect Her Deck thread series is going to pin them all down for the Coli though
Edit: Plus Jay is a top ten GOAT contender. There is a high bar for him.

Only on the internet the black album isnt a classic. That was jays moment. That jordan with the crossover on russel for ring number 6.
Outkast, Ghost, Dre and Cube got 4 classics imo if we can bundle group and solo albums.

As Golly said, how many realistically have above 2 classics, ESPECIALLY with these stricter boundaries enforced. I always believed Jay to have 3 and I voted for 3 but I imagine now that those who often were deemed to have 3 might not even make it out with all 3, they might only settle for 1 lol.
I kinda like it this way more though, gives more value to the word 'classic'. I can make peace with the fact that TBA maybe isn't a classic due to consensus but still has classic-level quality, at least in my eyes. Quality, of course, is half the game.

right! that's what I believe.
BUT, even though I think it could be his best album quality-wise, if you had to remove the classic title from one of RD, TBP or TBA, TBA would probably lose it, and that's reflective of this voting imo, so it's not all bad.

People love dirt of your shoulders. Change cloths was commercial but Lyrically he was spitting aggressive content. And in what universe is lucifer a weak track. The beat is insane and the lyrics are fire. Its like this site goes against the grain for the hell of it.
That's what's gonna be so great about this series of threads.

Jay has three universal classics that the masses can agree on. American gangster is a personal classic to me and alot of other jay fans aswell but I dont think it resonated with the masses. For an album to be a true classic it has be critically and commercially appraised. In real time reasonable doubt was a cool album from a dope underground rapper. After the masses heard volume 2 they went back to it and gave it its props. The problem with volume 2 is the production doesn't really hold up. Sharp Lyrically, it just panders to the bad boy and swizz beats wave. Someone should make a thread about all the cringeworthy production from 98-2000

I listened to it like three weeks ago. I'd only keep like 1-3 songs off there. Rest is pretty trash.
