Getting above three is tough. But there are a lot of examples of rappers/groups with three.
Eric B & Rakim
EPMD
Tribe
Outkast
De La Soul
Pac
Mobb Deep
Cube
Ghost

Some of these are debatable of course. @Inspect Her Deck thread series is going to pin them all down for the Coli though :wow:
Edit: Plus Jay is a top ten GOAT contender. There is a high bar for him.
:francis:
:manny: my larger point stands..to say only 2 classics like nikkas dropping catalogs of consensus classics like that :patrice: nah, you got more than one, that's higher company.. and I personally feel like he got 3. Its all subjective tho.

Dope thread.

There's the whole trifecta (RD, BP, BA) but I also voted for Vol. 2 because it made Jigga a superstar and its my first cd I physically bought growing up. not to mention the shyt had like 4-5 charting singles (Hard Knock Life, nikka What, Can I Get A, Money Ain't A Thang, It's Alright, Money Cash Hoes)

This.

The year 3030
RD is a definite classic.

Plus it has (one of) my favorite beat(s) of all time.

I'd also say TBA, AG are (personal) classics and the BP trilogy is solid and gets some unnecessary hate.

Either people couldn't read the instructions properly enough or they got lazy with various albums.

Vol. 3 barely reached 80 votes and RD is well over 100. People are supposed to vote for EVERY album on the poll, either yes or no.

It doesn't make a huge difference but it would just be better. It's not like it is super time consuming to tick 3 or 4 extra boxes.

By my way of thinking (see post in previous thread):

Classic=RD

Canon=RD, Blueprint (and ppl keep trying to make the black album happen and I don't know why but perhaps it is also canon)

Favourites=RD, Vol. 1-3, Dynasty

I think it's pretty much known that RD, TBP and TBA all have substantial influence to be classic-worthy, it's just a matter of whether they have enough quality as well.
Although I don't believe influence has any bearing on whether something is a classic (believer in quality only side of coin), I have to ask- what is TBA's influence?

(I'm not even sure that RD's influence hasn't been overstated, ppl quote it but what more?- just immaculate quality, timelessness, and is never finished saying what it has to say s/o calvino)

RD, BP and TBA are all universally considered classic Jay Z albums by everyone 27 and under. TBA was my freshman year of HS and solidified him as arguably the GOAT to us. It's usually people in their 30s or stans of other rappers trying to deny that album's impact. If you were going to make someone who knew nothing about Jay Z and album to make them a fan, I'd choose the Black Album despite RD and BP being better.

Only on the internet the black album isnt a classic. That was jays moment. That jordan with the crossover on russel for ring number 6.
Is the problem not then that it was a moment and therefore is diminished outside of that moment? Its too temporal, too generation-specific.

Too concerned with the moment, context of said moment is front and centre of TBA, doesn't relegate context of the moment to background noise. (more time capsule than classic imo)
