That's fair...I can agree with what you're saying, it makes a lot of sense.

However -

1) a lot of people who consider themselves hip-hop fans are not familiar with "half the catalog" of the greats,
whether by circumstance or by choice. There's been a lot of music to come out over all this time.

2) Everybody isn't out here buying records just because their popular.
I mean, it's nothing for rappers even to be in an interview and give props to other rappers who "are doing their thing",
but it's "not their chit".

I feel you on everything you're saying. We're just looking at the topic from two different perspectives.

You're saying general consensus would be 'kast last 3. Because people are most familiar with those. And that's a logically sound statement.

I'm saying I'd rather get the vote of one guy familiar with 'kast whole discography....rather than 100 votes from people somewhat knowledgeable about the group. His one vote would hold more weight to me.

That's me though. :manny:

I don't really get into these kinds of discussions with random people though. It would have to be somebody who knows what they're talking about....and I got zero tolerance for regional bias. Maybe because I'm from the midwest but that whole "I can't listen to Geto Boys, it's too southern", "I can't listen to Mac Mall, it's too west coast"....it's always been corny as fukk to me.

Now, if they prefer a specific sound....or if they have a artist specific argument, even something as simple as "it's wack", ok cool. But writing off a whole region or saying they can't vibe to Outkast early shyt because it's "too southern" would be one of the fastest ways to lose credibility with me.

If I start talking to somebody about 'kast and they can't name songs off their first 2 albums, I'm walking away.

:mjlol::pachaha:

When cadillac music dropped, was Player's Ball gettin radio spins in your city? That shyt was everywhere out in the Bay. Cats ate that cool, southern pimp shyt up.

Lol at the reasoning behind the decision. It's pretty self explanatory, I don't think they have a classic album personally. I don't begrudge anybody that does, I like Outkast, I think they have classic songs and have skill, Aquemini is my favourite album theirs. 1 of the the main problems on the site is people get too emotional about opinions when they are genuine opinions with no hatred involved. I've got every Kast album and am familiar with their work but I have to go with my genuine opinion, not be a sheep and blindly follow consensus. If you're voting an album cause you heard it's classic that's pointless to me, it then it becomes based off others opinions not your own. Also my standards for classics are high, like somebody said they are a rare thing, 1 thing I noticed seems to be an imbalance, some seem that label too much a classic or hardly anything. I'm on the more conservative view of classics, it can't just be a good album to me, it has to be something that can be played through most of the time and also something of the very high calibre in that style. I don't have to explain anything to anybody by the way, but I may discuss with people who speak with respect and civility. It takes time to break down these things though, and time isn't always in great supply for me. There's some albums in the coliclassics thing I was hoping to relisten to and evaluate before voting but I just could get around to it in time. Like I said, it's childish when people can't accept others opinions, it's much more productive to discuss and debate instead of hate. That's why you have a vote too, to say what you think, I'm not hating on anyone who thinks they have classic albums. My opinion also when voting I have to make it genuine so it's from the heart and with knowledge of the albums in question, I can't just vote yes or no, if it ain't real there's no point.

Again - I don't even disagree with this, and this is how I feel personally...

But if it appears we are looking at this topic from two different perspectives, here's why we are:
the threadstarter is asking us to step outside of our own perspectives and look at it from a collective point of view.

I absolutely believe the collective has faulty credibility. lol

In regards to ranking his recent albums I'm genuinely not sure, I loved The Maven, TheRAPeutic etc, would have to really sit down and listen back to back to compare. All I know is this shyt is excellent and a classic to me.

100 percent, you wouldn't know though because you haven't heard all K-Rino's albums if any while I've heard all of Kast's. That's the difference, I'm basing it off in depth knowledge , you are basing it off ignorance.
