As far as the thread....I'm an OG 'kast fan. Had the Christmas sampler, their debut day 1, all that shyt.

I'm leery about voting because even though Outkast is my favorite group I can't give them 3 classic albums. And the way the poll is set up there is no middle ground.

That's insane to me. Maybe somebody like Cube or PE has two classics. Wu does if you count the solos as group albums.

And before somebody goes nuts....classic is like, a fukking unicorn brehs. It's rare, even among greatness. You gotta use it sparingly.

Most rappers have zero. A select few have one. Virtually none have more than one.

Having said all that, their debut is my favorite so I'd vote for that. But the next two are so dope I'm not mad if somebody says they're classic....but I can't do it.

As far as Mobb Deep vs Outkast....be thankful you grew up in an era where we can even debate that.

Fred.

Building off this important post, what I'm gonna say will ruffle some feathers: Outkast in general don't make hip hop. They're alternative 'urban' artists, who happen to be very good at what they do. None of their albums are GOAT hip hop contenders. A huge part of their appeal is that they run counter to what hip hop does. I always find it hilarious when cacs act like Outkast is the highest expression of hip hop, when in fact, Outkast are proto-rap connoisseurs and imitators brought into modern day. They're basically devolving hip hop and creating fusion music that straddles both worlds (the hip hop and non-hip hop worlds) equally while not being 100% true to each other.

And if you think what I'm saying is bullshyt, look at how the rap game has been over the last 10 years. shyt output, yet an unprecedented number of 3 Stacks clones. Coincidence? I think not.

All that aside (I already sense feelings being hurt), I fukk with some of Outkast's music. They have a strong discography and songs I'll always enjoy.

My top 5 all-time Outkast songs:
Atliens
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
So Fresh So Clean
Da Art of Storytellin Pt 1 with Slick Rick
Ghetto Musick
6th man: Jazzy Belle (that opening line is fantastic)

The fact that it was relatively easy for me to choose my top 5 Outkast songs tells me these guys don't really have loads of classic albums/hip hop songs like that. In comparison, me thinking of my favorite top 5 Nas/Jay-Z songs all time is fukking impossible.

Anyway, given the fact that these guys don't really make hip hop (why do you think they're on LaFace?), I'm hesitant to give them more than one hip hop classic. Because that's what we're talking about here. HIP HOP. If we're talking urban music classics of the 90s, then sure. I'd throw Aquemini in there too.

Their overall best album, and more hip hop than subsequent work: A T L I E N S

I voted ATLiens, Aquemini, Stankonia and Speakerboxx/Love Below, the last two just for impact and huge singles alone as whole projects their great but I don't think match up to the first two which are some of my favorite albums of all time. Big Boi and Andre 3000 are some of the best to ever pick up a mic it's crazy how well their music holds up after all these years. I remember as a kid listening to ATLiens and Elevators as a child, Rosa Parks at eight then they completely blew up mainstream wise with So Fresh and So Clean, BOB and Ms Jackson.

Lol at the reasoning behind the decision. It's pretty self explanatory, I don't think they have a classic album personally. I don't begrudge anybody that does, I like Outkast, I think they have classic songs and have skill, Aquemini is my favourite album theirs. 1 of the the main problems on the site is people get too emotional about opinions when they are genuine opinions with no hatred involved. I've got every Kast album and am familiar with their work but I have to go with my genuine opinion, not be a sheep and blindly follow consensus. If you're voting an album cause you heard it's classic that's pointless to me, it then it becomes based off others opinions not your own. Also my standards for classics are high, like somebody said they are a rare thing, 1 thing I noticed seems to be an imbalance, some seem that label too much a classic or hardly anything. I'm on the more conservative view of classics, it can't just be a good album to me, it has to be something that can be played through most of the time and also something of the very high calibre in that style. I don't have to explain anything to anybody by the way, but I may discuss with people who speak with respect and civility. It takes time to break down these things though, and time isn't always in great supply for me. There's some albums in the coliclassics thing I was hoping to relisten to and evaluate before voting but I just could get around to it in time. Like I said, it's childish when people can't accept others opinions, it's much more productive to discuss and debate instead of hate. That's why you have a vote too, to say what you think, I'm not hating on anyone who thinks they have classic albums. My opinion also when voting I have to make it genuine so it's from the heart and with knowledge of the albums in question, I can't just vote yes or no, if it ain't real there's no point.

Ladies and gentlemen, the real WOAT poster.

An arrogant vulture with a constant case of the juelz. In the midst of all that rambling, there's not a single reasoning or specific observation related to Outkast's material as to why he voted 'no'. Just "I think they have classic songs and skill." Obviously, you fukking moron. What else they got? We don't have all day.

@mobbinfms you used to cape for The Ruler hard. What happened breh? :sas2:

People should actually learn from some of our debates/discussions because we get to the subject, say our view points and see where the other is coming from then either agree or agree to disagree. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing if people aren't disagreeable. Forum would be so boring if everyone agreed on everything, likewise it is sometimes boring because many don't debate or discuss anymore, it's delusional made up personal attacks from people hurt and obsessed or deflections. It's like don't want to actually debate the issues, so
I'm not even interested really in elaborating or discussing because it's pointless with trolls, it's a shame cause a lot of interesting debate doesn't happen due to that. I've already said if people think Kast have classics I'm not mad at that at all, it's all good, no-one's denying they have albums that some/many view as classic, it comes down to personal opinion which individuals are naturally bound to differ on.
