I remember when dvd/cd games first game.
Before that games used to cost 79.99 for cartridges.
They told us with development of optical media we would see a reduction in pricing 49.99 would the be the norm.
Then Xbox 2 and Ps3 the price shoots up, even though development media and development platforms were merging making PC and console development streamlined and just a optimization issue.
It makes no sense why the price of games has not falled again, but I blame the market, you kids who go out and buy this shyt, who pay money for demos and betas (which are advertising, kids paying to be advertised to) have created this situation and I don't give a damn.

...and they would make a lot less profit, if they made anything at all.

Btw Dishonored 2 was a really good game released last year that didn't sell well. Deus Ex as well.
Both those games look like trash not triple A current gen content.

Developers are getting lazy with ideas and I'll continue to be lazy with my wallet...

As the industry got bigger and the tech better the creativity tanked. Makes no sense at all. All the big games are full of rehashed ideas. Games are also over priced. They would definitely get more sales at reasonable price points.

Didn't sell well=/=failure

Everything doesn't need to do COD numbers.

Just yesterday y'all were arguing to me that a million seller is a highly successful title.

Seems yalls opinion on how many copies need to be sold changes depending on whether they are PS exclusives or not:mjpls:

Some good in that. Not every game needs to try and be a Hollywood blockbuster.

I doubt Nintendo spends so much to develop yet they still sell like hotcakes.

There's a lane like GTA and such. But we don't need so many games to try and follow the formula. :ehh:

spending so much money on marketing seems like a waste. I remember last time I was in SF, every other city bus had an Assassin's Creed ad on the side. does that really make people want to buy a game though? it certainly doesn't make a good game

it seems a lot of the time I find out about games through internet word-of-mouth, and not any form of traditional advertising

Where exactly does Nier Automata come into all of this? Two and a half years production, sold very well on only two platforms and a sequel an almost certainly?
- What they don't want you to believe in
Persona and NieR, (formerly) niche franchises with relatively little promotion, moved units, were quality games, financial successes. It's up to these major companies to stop prioritizing grandness of a game + looking like a movie over just making a good game. The premise of emphasizing making a good game is priceless.
