And you don't think that they'll be upset about giving someone so much exposure, a long reign as World Champion, and a run as the top face of the company only for the same person to abandon them right before the Road to Wrestlemania period? And on top of that, sue them? :usure:

They would bury themselves if they went out of their way to bash Punk because they chose to make him the longest reigning champ. If they wanted to really get at him, they'd just give him the Benoit treatment and pretend he was never there. They did that with Bret until he came back. They did it to Macho Man too.

:yeshrug: Whichever petty road they take (because we know it will be petty), they'll find a way to make Punk look bad to the fans. When money is at stake, Vince has no problem with taking shots at people as we saw a glimpse of at the beginning of Raw with Cena's "lawsuit".

What does one incident have to do with the other though? Based on the info in this thread, he's not suing them for whatever led him out of the door at the beginning for the year. He's suing because they're about to make money off of his likeness/trademark in the video game. Why should he leave money on table just because he held the belt for a year?

That wasn't my point. I was saying that the company sacrificed a lot for him, he walked out during the most important period of the year business wise, and may have violated his contract details. The WWE didn't look to punish him in court because they believed that he might return and he was still profitable as a wrestler. If Punk DID violate his contract and he tries to sue over the video game, they might use it against him.

Understood.

I doubt they just let him walk out though. There had to be some kind of agreement (whether verbally or in writing) that wrapped up his obligations for the remainder of the contract. Otherwise, they would have put those hounds on him as soon as the incident happened.

As far as his walkout goes, I agree that WM is the most important time of the year, but he didn't have any direction months before he left. If he had the kind of year Bryan wad having, i'd agree that he left them hanging. He was about to be fighting Kane on the Road to WM. He didn't seem to be into it either. Not saying him leaving was great, but his immediate future didn't look too bright if he stayed. I

Not sure how all this contract stuff works.

Even though he quit was he supposed to be paid for his name and likeness to appear in the game? If so, then I don't blame him for wanting his money if they didn't give it to him.

Again, I don't know how this stuff works and what all was in his contract in regards to video games. Or if his contract became void since he quit.

From what I've heard, Punk actually completed all of his contractually mandated dates (according to guys like Nash and Bret Hart, you have a contract term, but also a set number of dates per year that you must meet. Beyond those dates, you don't actually have to work. You can simply go home and collect your downside unless WWE decides to release you) by the Royal Rumble, then talked to Vince and told him that he was going home. If that's the case (and I've heard it enough that it probably is the case), then nobody breached anything. Punk did his dates and went home for the remainder of his contract, and WWE paid him his downside, but not any possible show money (houses, PPVs, RAWs, etc.). Contract fulfilled by both sides, no case for breach.

The only issue concerns Punk's royalties, which I've heard were held back by WWE. That's what he's demanding (2K15 plus merch and the like) right now.

That was my impression as well. Vince has too much pride to just let Punk walk out like that without any repercussions...

Punk is setting himself up for a disaster. The WWE legal team is no joke and could destroy him if they really wanted to.

historically the wwe, when sued by higher profile draws typically lose in court.
