I’m not overlooking anything, I’m commenting on the 90% drop this thread and article is citing. They are literally comparing the most watched day in CNN history to some random day a year later. It would be like comparing the week of September 11, 2001 to the week of Sept 11, 2002 and talking about the massive ratings decline. I don’t doubt there has been a ratings drop off. It’s not a presidential election year, covid and vaccine talk is old now, and Trump isn’t bringing in the hate watching. But that doesn’t make this thread and article any less dumb of a comparison.

“The Jeff Zucker-led cable news network averaged just 548,000 viewers during the week of Jan. 3 — a major drop from the nearly 2.7 million viewers for the same week in 2021, according to Nielsen ratings.

The year-ago ratings were jolted by the left-leaning network’s coverage of the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol, which resulted in CNN having its most-watched day since Ted Turner launched the news outlet in 1980.”

^^^ This ain’t it.

A good comparison of ratings would be Jan 2018 vs Jan 2022, because then you’d at least be comparing apples to apples, the 2nd year of the presidents term.

You could, but that wouldn’t be accomplishing the purpose of this article in using data to craft a narrative and story :skip:

Let’s not sit here and pretend that articles and stories from non-news outlets don’t do this all the time and people don’t say a word about it.

My grandparents watch the news all fukken day long, shyt drives me crazy, I dont even like visiting.
I thought it was just my grandma:dwillhuh:

love her to death but her TV stays on CNN & MSNBC all day long. Her reason is “I like to know what’s going on”

Im like…It’s the same stuff everyday, Covid and political mess :what:

You’re right. I mean ratings are down period so coming up with these wild stats ain’t even that important. People keep saying they miss Trump basically saying Trump brought ratings.. umm… you think????!!! This dude was damn near fresh off a Wrestlemania appearance and then became President. Don’t y’all remember what he had going on before he became President? Of course he was going to bring ratings lol. That’s still not a good reason to wait him as President though. Speaking as a guy that covered a bunch of Trump rallies alongside CNN, there’s a bunch of journalists that was in the field that’s glad he’s gone. I don’t give AF what any management thinks.. They weren’t out there getting all the bullshyt the journalists/photographers were getting.

I bet they won't be saying that when their job is cut with budget issues being cited as the reasoning. Trump being a magnet for content and ratings were the reason why these news outlets had the money to sign a lot of them in the first place.

Job were cut before, during, and after Trump. They’ll be ok:yeshrug: Go back to local news, that’s better anyway.

Local news are doing job cuts themselves. Job cuts happen happen all the time but it doesn't stop people from making a big deal of it when it happens to their industry and/or someone that they know.
