They could've been Snoop and Dre. TI and Toomp. The two clearly brought the best out of each other and the results were Common having the most cohesive albums in his career. Be is my favorite Common album and Finding Forever is underrated imo.

No disrespect man, and I'm sure you meant no harm, but in reality...the shyt you saying is part of the reason why nikkas like Kanye end up spazzing out. This nikka Kanye probably hears shyt like this on a regular basis and personally if I were him it would make me wanna rip my hair out and start foaming at the mouth on some "WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!" type shyt.

Do you realize that prior to even establishing himself as a respectable rapper, Kanye had already revived Twista's career? Then Common? Gave both these dudes from the Chi', two of his idols mainstream pub and their first platinum plaques 10+ years after their debut records?? Not to mention putting his mentor NoID, the dude that produced all of Common's early work on so much so that he never had to produce another album again in his life?? In fact with 4:44 this year there was a 20 year gap for the last time NoID has produced an album...and he's been eating good as an exec so he didn't have to do that!

Kanye has done so much for the Chi, for rappers/producers in general man. Yeah he could have been whatever you think him and Common could have been, but to me he's been so much more and we gotta stop focusing on what our artists "didn't" or "don't" do, that shyt is cancerous to the creative process and the average fan doesn't realize how depressing that can be to a creative. This that shyt that causes Yeezus, lol.

Again no disrespect dude, I typically love your posting, but somebody gotta tell you..that shyt ain't cool man.

I see what your saying but to that's just an excuse. Nas was hearing people say they wanted another Illmatic for damn near a decade and he never went crazy. As fans all we ask is that artist put out consistently dope music. I think Kanye became a victim of the industry more than anything else. Im not saying Kanye is wrong for how he has handled his music but I know those two were capable of putting out much more music together which they stopped doing for some reason

even tho Common signed to his label:heh:

Personally I just think the two brought the best out in each other

Yeah at the end of the day, Kanye is still his own person, but the difference between him and Nas as creatives is that Kanye planned out his first 4 albums, so anything that deviates from his ADHD-ass plan would trigger him, lol. Also you gotta understand that Common has a role in this too. We can't just assume that he thought he was gonna be working with Kanye for the next 10 albums. It's pretty clear that Common used the platform as a vehicle for other stuff like movies and philanthropic ventures as well as business ventures. Sometimes when you sign one of your idols to a long term deal, it's just a way of transferring wealth :manny:

I agree. Actually Common might be even more to blame. He should've learned a lesson from Electric Circus. Some artists just don't have it what it takes to step outside their comfort zone. Im pretty sure Kanye would've produced a third album in a row for Common if he wanted him to. FF was the album where Common started to go Hollywood

Not sure why you guys are responding to trash ass posters with horrendous opinions :francis:

I remember skipping class in when Be came out, and got to Best Buy right when it came out and copped that and Chappelle's Show season 2 :wow:

OP asks an interesting question. Can someone explain why Common went back to the Neptunes after FF? Electric Circus isn't as horrible as people made it out to be, but I don't think Neptunes have as good of chemistry with Com as Kanye does.

Someone mentioned Back 2 Basics, can't find it either, man I wish that song was a full track :mjcry:

yeah you're pretty bad at these hip hop discussions. Do me a favor and never quote me. Because it's always you who initiates these inane convos :salute:

You came into this thread caping for Common’s worst beat and song off Be, and tried using JCole as some measuring stick. You’re the last person who should be talking about initiating inane convos as that’s the basis of all your threads.

Common was much more focused on Be than LWFC. LWFC had too many collaborators on it. But everybody loved The Light tho so your theory is on songs about women doesn't hold up

:what: The 6th Sense, Thelonious and Nag Champa are better than ANY track on Be. Several times over, too

I agree that LWFC was all over the place while Be was more 'cohesive' but cohesive doesn't mean shyt. Ultimately we care about standout records, and LWFC's standouts are vastly superior to Be's.

:wow: Legit WATTBA. Club life was legit legendary. Social Media didn’t control the world. Everybody didn’t produce the same sound.
Kobe and Lebron and T-Mac still were all relevant.
Threadstarter is dead wrong. They had their run and put out countless classic tracks together. Not everybody has a Jay-z run where they are relevant 20 years in the game, especially in rap.
The fact you are bringing up albums from a decade ago already shows their impact
*proceeds to play both album*:win:

This is flat out wrong breh, NoID produced the bulk of Big Seans first 2 albums, Vince Staples Debut and Jhene Aiko's debut. He also did a bunch of work on Blueprint 3, Life Is Good, and Cudis debut alongside two full Common albums and a bunch of his Cocaine 80s projects all within the last 10 years.
