Or maybe the album actually sounds good and it’s some peak Kanye production???
It is but Dilla’s two beats are THE highlight of the album. I remember buying the CD and knowing Kanye didn’t produce those tracks off first listen and it was a welcomed relief

That fukking album catapulted Commons rap career to another level! fukk you mean nikka? :mjtf:
Did it?
It was about Kanye cause he was on an amazing run and about Common cause it was a major resurgence for him coming off of such a left-field experimental type album like Electric Circus. You were 8 in 2005, and you’re also a white woman, so you can’t fairly speak on this at all.
Resurgence?

I think you’re overrating Common’s appeal

Kanye got rap fans to listen to Common. Hell of a feat

Exactly nikka! Fans that probably hadn’t or wouldn’tve gave a thought to listen to Common if not for that album, which again took Common to another level.Ur not as smart as you think! You just added Kanye’s name to what I said. Matlock!:childplease:

It's a great album but Resurrection is better.

Testify is one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard. IDK how the fukk that ended up on the album. The most irritating beat of all time and it's not even close.

Love Is, Chi-City, Real People and It's Your World are all classic tracks.

Be was dope for the year 2005...

Electric Circus imo came out way too early. I don't think the rap game was ready for that album.

Maybe if it came out 10-11 years later, it would have been much better received.

My favorite common album is One day it will all make sense but Be was a classic, whether you like it or not.
:manny:

All the high ratings and praise came from a lack of flaws, balanced lyricism, and being an enjoyable vibe album from front to back.

We’re too grown to be conflating our personal tastes with “good” or “bad”. It’s universally was praised, but now there’s crying about it not being good, because you didn’t like it?

Just because your tastes are shytty, or you imagine being contrarian makes you important, or whatever made you decide to post here instead of your diary, doesn’t mean it wasn’t good. Because it was good, you just didn’t like it. When you think everybody is wrong, then maybe consider that you’re the problem.

I don’t know why the booth finds it so difficult to just admit they didn’t like something without trying to declare it universally bad. There’s plenty of music I don’t like but I’m not gonna tuck my nuts into my stomach and declare it bad. I may give it a shot, acknowledge it’s success, and admit that I couldn’t get into it because my taste may be trash or maybe I’m not in the right space to enjoy it.
:manny:

I’M SORRY TO THOSE THAT DIDNT ENJOY BE. BUT BE IS A GREAT, CLASSIC, HIGHLY RATED, AND RESPECTED ALBUM AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. IT’S OUT OF YOUR CONTROL.

Rap fans were listening to Common before Be. I don't understand the statement. Even with Electric Circus, it got panned because it wasn't what rap fans wanted to hear from Common where Be was a return to form. Personally, Electric Circus was the only logical way to follow up an album like Like Water For Chocolate. Kanye isn't what got rap fans listening to Common. This was Common back to form over some Kanye production. The Kanye association gave Common some mainstream looks that he didn't have before. Still, even before Kanye, Common was in commercials (Sprite and Coca- Cola). His biggest album, and it possibly still is his biggest was Like Water For Chocolate and that had no Kanye production. "The Light" is Common's biggest song and there's Erykah's "Love of My Life". There's also Common's own "Come Close" (one of my favorite Common songs).
