This wasn't no calculated plot by Joe Budden to leave and go on to greener pastures. This dumb nikka asked for 5 mill a year cause stupid muthafukkas gassed him up and he really thought he was worth that. His nerd ass followers have been a detriment to him for years. Dudes gassed him up unbelievably and made him think he was one of the greatest rappers of all time and he proceeded to disrespect better and legendary rappers and wound up with a swollen eye. This won't end well for Budden. It never does.

Everybody watches VladTV, everybody knows who Lord Jamar is now.

Joe Budden's broadcasting content / "branding" is geared towards 20-30 year olds, with a large female demographic, mainly because he talks about a lot of stuff relevant to those age groups and audiences, he was on L&HH, and because he's actually made music in the last decade. He built up an impressive resume for an on-camera broadcasting job through getting himself viral off really popular memes, widely-known public disputes, a popular podcast, the Hollow battle, etc.. Nobody is watching Lord Jamar interviews on VladTV besides grey in the hair middle aged men, and that's been his only ever platform.

Again, that's not a spite against Lord Jamar because I'm sure he doesn't gaf about any of that, but that's the facts of the situation. You can't really think "everybody knows who Lord Jamar is" and that "everybody watches VladTV". First off, nobody clicks on that channel, if a controversial soundbite happens on a video people might watch but that's it. And second, no, not everybody knows who Lord Jamar is Go ask a 25-year old or a female under 30 (two of the largest content consumer groups and who Complex is geared towards) who Lord Jamar is.

The 5 Million I can believe. This is the thing, overcharging is a normal business tactic people use when they don't want to do something, you overcharge them, and if they meet the quota, then you do it, and if they don't you walk away.

Joe probably didn't want to do the show anymore anyway, since he's in the works of branching off with his own show. So he asked them for a contract that he knew they would probably never agree to. It's a win win. They sign it, great, he gets his 5 Million and does the show. They don't? That's great too. I can leave now like I wanted to anyway, and do my own thing that I was already working on.

Complex platform or some sort of large publication platform is definitely needed. Without that, there is no legitimacy meaning no celeb guests, no passes at red carpets, no professional production setup, no producers to help out with the actual content creation, etc. etc.. Plus Complex is super valuable because they have a stronghold on the millennial and under 20 demo. Everyday Struggle's success has as much to do with Budden and Ak as it has to do with Complex's young subscribers / readers / fans who know and respect their content tuning in and making the show relevant.

You know how many views those "Sneaker Shopping with Complex" videos get? You know how much "clout" that Emily Oberg chick has? Or how many young people get their hip-hop news / opinions off Complex?
