This was literally before the call that changed my life. And that call was from a boutique in the L.E.S. that was interested in my clothing designs (that I made during work while I was bored from calling 100 clients a day) and wanted to host them at their shop...which led to the bones pop-up shop.

(I was living in Jackson Heights at the time).

That ray of hope :wow:

You lucky because most do not get that opportunity. I remember I was losing faith and about to just sign up to be an ESL teacher and leave the country although that is not a career I would recommend and it's not something sustainable - It was better than plugging away at jobs here and getting nothing. This was back in '10 after I had graduated '09. Then I got the call that introduced me to my current industry and it basically changed my life.

It's something that a lot of times only happens in NYC. As much as I hate what my city has become (superficial and generic) it is the city of opportunity.

We don't have a lot of drug addicts here (at least for a long time anyways) compared to other regions/cities because of that. So many new opportunities popping up, if you have an inkling of talent you can eat at least a little. This city has made many a potential entrepreneur like yourself sober up and get on the grind. So much to gain.

Your story sounds reminiscent of my step brother and his journey to become who he is today. It makes me miss how NY used to be in the 90's. More crime but nikkas could eat legitly if they hustled. There were a number of different avenues available. The scene is different today but compared to other places you can still get back on the wagon much more quickly.

BTW Jackson Heights is ghetto as fukk and depressing. I used to visit my home boy there and it just felt like squalor. Even worse than 40 Projects or Brownsville. The vibe was just :beli:
