Developers/publishers renting servers & infrastructure for their own games is what I mean when I say that 3rd parties are responsible for the servers of their own games, not the platform holder.

Quit confusing "Windows Azure" with XBL. They're both 2 completely, separate divisions of Microsoft. Like I said before, Microsoft's "Windows Azure" was not built for a tiny division delivering shytty margins (Xbox). It was built for software as a service for the big guns. The fact that they can leverage it for Xbox is a bonus, it'll still have to generate a decent return.

3rd-party developers/publishers are responsible for the servers of their own games, not the platform holder. Sony is only responsible for the servers for PSN and their own 1st & 2nd party games. Microsoft is is only responsible for the servers for XBL and their own 1st & 2nd party games.
