This is a decent song. Maybe this is the era of eminem I should explore more of. Still not seeing the technical skill that would have him on anyone's top 5/10/20, but at least it is listenable.[/SPOILER]

Eminem has one of the best uses of assonance and vocabulary to make long strings of syllables rhyme with one another. Eminem can rap long and fast in one take in a way that others cannot. This is why Slaughterhouse had to be sped up to how fast Em was rapping naturally."Technical skill" is often a go-to in conversations about eminem. Maybe I'm missing something.
THAT is the point of this thread.
If his technical skill is what keeps him from being garbage, then post a song where his skill is on display. If possible, indicate the exact line of the song I should focus on.![]()

Em doesn't just rap fast but his alliteration is absolutely tongue twisting and hard for people to mimic without stumbling or having to punch in and out.
Em also is the one rapper that is good at humor and can self deprecate where it works well. Most rappers have to have a cliche character afraid of showing truth and vulnerability.
I'm glad you set it off so I can show you how Em is different than and realer than these artists.OP: Role Model, Guilty Conscience and his verse on "Dead Wrong".
I wouldn't consider Em hot garbage. He's a B-tier skilled rapper (at best. I'd say B-) that sold out early and made bullshyt music his entire career. A slightly better Pharoahe Monch/Chino XL with blonde hair and Interscope.
aka "Eminem is an emo rapper and I can relate to emo shyt."
I've always hated hearing that "Eminem keeps it more real than teh Blacks" perspective that cacs and a couple c00ns give. Most rappers are afraid of showing truth and vulnerability? Word?![]()
Songs like "Slippin" don't exist? "All I Got Is You?" Suicidal Thoughts? The whole of Illmatic is vulnerable in certain ways. In fact, Nas is one of the most vulnerable rappers ever. shyt... Wu-tang were vulnerable in many ways. Mobb Deep. the list goes on.
The thing is hip hop has no time for emo displays of faux-pain. Life's too real for Black people to be caught up in "I hate my mom, I wish I could kill her because she didn't make my oatmeal properly" white-boyisms. We express our pain to let y'all know it exists but we're more concerned with toughing through it and keeping it moving. That's hip hop.

Biggie claimed to live in some one room shack as a means of appropriation when his mom revealed it wasn't true. He acted like he was some kind of classy Don because he put on some suits when Lil Kim said he didn't even want to but Puff convinced him to as a type of marketing. Biggie was stupid enough to make a song about killing himself but Em was smart enough to clarify that he never would.
X will never talk about his crack addiction as liberally or as directly as Em has done multiple full songs about. When Ja was threatening X, X was copping pleas talking about how he wanted to keep it on wax. Em vested up and prepared for the worst when he had beef with the same man a year or 2 later.
On Illmatic Nas was comparing himself to Scarface holding M16s. Nas is a socially awkward introvert that reads recreationally who makes songs talking about being the flyest gangster. Em said never once did he claim to be a gangster and never once did he hear a complaint. Nas will call Def Jam an evil empire and then sign to them.
