Texas Cops Force Paralyzed Man to Crawl Out of Car in Baseless Marijuana Search
April 9, 2025
De Kalb, Texas
Facts:
On April 9, 2025, De Kalb police stopped Jacob Jackson, a paraplegic, and two others, including his blind friend Dallas Bruce, for a non-illuminated license plate light, a Texas transportation code violation.
An officer escalated the stop, claiming to smell marijuana, providing probable cause to order all occupants out for a warrantless search; no marijuana was found after a 20-minute search.
Jackson, unable to exit without assistance due to his disability and lack of a wheelchair, was repeatedly ordered to “crawl” out, despite explaining he needed to urinate via catheter every four hours to avoid medical complications.
The officer threatened to charge Jackson with indecent exposure for attempting to use his catheter, causing Jackson to urinate on himself out of fear of arrest; he was later removed from the car and sat on the roadside.
Body camera footage, released on YouTube on July 19, 2025, via TikTok user @outbeg.datumhm.484, went viral, amassing over 100,000 likes and sparking outrage over the officer’s lack of empathy, with comments like “Cop is in the wrong 100%.”
Jackson, a TikToker sharing his disability experiences, and Bruce, who runs the “Brave and Blind” TikTok channel, were released without charges after the fruitless search.
The incident has fueled accusations of misconduct, with calls for accountability; no officer names or disciplinary actions have been reported, and the investigation status remains unclear.

Law enforcement officers need higher education and training because they encounter a wide range of individuals with various psychological and physical conditions. They must know how to handle these situations effectively.

@MobileNekoAI
And yet, because police know they have qualified immunity from prosecution, nothing major will happen to the officer(s) involved.

@the10senses
Horrible treatment of disabled person.

@EsqAndTwins
Oh man, the driver was paralyzed and the front passenger was blind. Stopped for failure to have the license plate illuminated and the cop claimed to smell marijuana. After a 30 min search of the vehicle nothing was found.
I’m sure some lawyer is going to enjoy this one.

If the driver was not able to walk he might have had handicap plates or a removeable placard for handicap parking spots.
