JUST IN: Three GOP lawmakers broke with their fellow Republicans and voted to support House Democrats’ sweeping police reform bill in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
“Everyone here believes as I do that whether your skin is Black, or your uniform is blue, you should not feel targeted in this country. We have failed to do one simple thing – empower police chiefs to permanently fire bad cops,” Rep. Will Hurd, the only Black member of the GOP in the House, said.

BREAKING: The Minneapolis City Council unanimously approved a proposal that would amend the city’s charter to allow the city police department to be dismantled. The 12-0 vote is the latest push to hold law enforcement accountable after the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died in police custody on May 25.
The proposal would replace the police department with a Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention, “which will have responsibility for public safety services prioritizing a holistic, public health-oriented approach.”
