I think she is too overcome with grief to be talking about this shyt. I get how she feels, but no one is blaming her for their deaths, they are just asking why they didn't get the shot.
Paywalled so I can't get to it unfortunately. Based on the title, it reminds me of
a great book I read during the pandemic on how most people approach being wrong.
The analogy the author gives is that we start at the top of a pyramid with a minor view on something, but with each decision to reaffirm that initial thought, we slide further down the pyramid and continually solidify our views. By the time we end up at the base of the pyramid, our subconscious is
literally rejecting any evidence to the contrary to the point that we purposefully stop listening mid-sentence, change the channel, lash out in anger, etc.
Her subconscious has to be to working overtime right now to protect her from reaching the conclusion that her (in)action got her fam killed. It's one of the most basic defense mechanism we got and there are very few individuals that have the mental fortitude to deal with something like that in a healthy way. Not giving her a pass, but it makes it more understandable why a lot of these anti-vax people have lost someone close to them due to covid and choose to double down on their beliefs because the alternative is acknowledging that a decision that seemed meaningless at the time had such huge ramifications.
