I make almost $200k a year and I live like a fukking pauper. NYC is no place to be if you aspire to save and build wealth. It costs too damn much.
That's because you choose to live more lavishly than you should, yes? Assuming you have the same bills as everyone else and lived frugally away from the glamour and lights, You could easily stack 75k to 100k a year, no?

You living in a building orrr? I'm confused where the affordable spots are

You are gonna have to do some hunting in Astoria or Sunset Park. Last 2 neighborhoods in reasonable distance to the city at this price range. But finding apartments at my price will not be easy. If we move it will be close to Queensboro Plaza and the 21st Street Queensbridge F train stop, but not prime Long Island city real Estate. There are lower demand pockets that you'll only find by walking around in the neighborhood. Online only has about 25% of the true available listings and are leftovers of what's left after the rest get gobbled up by locals.

200k?:wtf:

either your standards for living good are unreasonably high or your expenses are out of control
you could live comfy and have a good amount to save/invest each month making near 200k in NY :rudy:

I think @BLAZO da GAWD posted once about those NJ to NY monthly tolls being like $300.00+? Nobody should be spending a car note on tolls a month just to get to work. :mjcry:

It's seeming like that's the trick. If you want to live in NY you can't live alone unless you're a six figure dude. So I can see how all the coli posters are doing it, but what about everybody else? :pachaha:

Not true, I make about 60k a year, and I live alone. No debt or car note, and I'm managing just fine

I'll be honest I'm not sure I would live what would constitute the suburbs. Definitely not in these cookie cutter style suburbs where all the houses are the same these days.

I'm a nature guy and love some isolation so probably something that would more constitute the country or rural area. I lived in some apartments that were odd and situated in this sort of area by its lonesome and just being outside where it's quiet and you can smell the trees and see all types of wildlife from deer, wild turkey, etc. is something I'm determined to make part of my permenant living arraignment. Not sure if areas like this outside of NYC exist.
New York City is literally a tenth of the state of New York. They have a lot of country spots once you leave the city. I've thought about buying a log cabin or at least renting.
