"Ether" is a bunch of tall tales and and name-calling. In "Takeover" Jay Z broked down the career of Nas to a simple math problem (albeit one that applies to himself also)

You said you've been in this 10, I've been in it 5 - smarten up, Nas
4 albums in 10 years, nikka?I could divide
That's one every...let's say 2

2 of them shyts was due
1 was "nah," the other was Illmatic
That's a one-hot-album-every-10-year average

Show me one poignant line from "Ether" . . go ahead, I'll wait

people always overlook this bar

"2 of them shyts was due"

basically sayin due as you had to deliver but also peep the bar

2 of them shytS was DUE

2 X shyt/due = doo-doo

like that went over most peoples head and is probably the most underrated bar in the song

All Nas would've had to do was two things

1). Expose Jay for the lifelong Fan of Nas that he was while simultaneously exposing the blatant biting

2). Drop it on Jay's birthday

shyt would've been a WRAP now just as it was then. Remember Meek Mill's fatal mistake was having Twitter fingers, talking ALL that shyt behind a computer and then dropping the most mediocre diss song of the present era. People tend to forget that Nas didn't wait "months" to respond to Jay-Z. Jay-Z did Summer Jam and ENDED with "Ask Nas He Don't Want It With Hov!". Then Nas responded on wax with Stillmatic Freestyle, which wouldn't been enough to keep the convo going. Then in September Jay dropped the full version of Takeover. Nas is notoriously low key. He wouldn't have been on Twitter, Instagram, none of that shyt. The internet could've made jokes but everyone would've known from Stillmatic Freestyle that Nas had it in him...and then BOOM. December 4th, ETHER.

Exactly. The whole draw of Ether was the "IM NOT DEAD nikka".

"I've been fukked over, left for dead, dissed and forgotten, luck ran out, thought that i':"d be gone, stiff and rotten..."

yep, jay wouldve survived, the same way nas wouldve survived...there wouldve been a bunch of jokes on both, but since both know how to make good music, people still wouldve fukked with them...it wouldve only been extreme fans that stopped fukking with them for non music related reasons, kinda like now and how any 'beef' goes....

Tupac told DOCTOR Dre to "Check his temperature" and not a single person thought about a doctor with a thermometer
