Crazy how Barbers and other Blue Collar jobs are making more than the 6 cert IT Gang nowadays.

Crazy how things have flipped. We use to look down at Barbers, Repairmen, Plumbers, Carpenters and other blue collar workers. I'm a 80s baby, a lot of shot for the pretty, clean suit and tie jobs. Luckily I got in the IT field when I did. But I have a older that has been cutting hair for 20+ years. And a cousin that's been a plumber and another that's been at a wood mill for 20+ years. All are balling. Been balling. I'm talking season tickets to the Saints. Nice homes and vehicles.

Another advantage I've learning from my barber and cousins. They're able to earn money on the side. Tax free money. I guess IT can do a little tech work outside of work, but you damn near have to be legit for people to trust you.

I feel like we were miseducated. In High School, never dreamed a Plumber, carpenter or Electrician could live a comfortable life. Seems we as a people left all the jobs that built this country. Left our land, farms and livestock for the pretty jobs. Now them gritty jobs are secure and paying well.

I just left a job where they're turning a Air Force Hangar into a SCIF. I had to escort the contractors for months. Getting insights on cost or services and materials has changed my life. So many industries we have no clue on. Concrete and Steel, Insolating, Brick masons. plumbers, drywall installs, so much damn money. Especially on the commercial side and military contracting.

Dudes I know in trades are killing it and the best part they got virtually no student loan debt.

Unless you made 6 figures in tech for a decade or more. You probably gonna take an L when it's all said and done. Especially if you didn't invest heavily in the stock market. Or didn't job hop to overinflate your salary. No way the majority of tech jobs don't get hollowed out in the next decade.

Gen X may be the first to need a universal basic income after late-career job loss

Gen X barrels toward retirement with sky-high student-loan debt and lots of regret: report

Not all money is good money. Quality is why our teachers told us to be white collar.

Nothing beats spending your entire workday watching netflix and bullshyting in your air-conditioned office or working from home. Those blue collar dudes dont get this.

Successful people will be successful at whatever they're doing
I don't see why it needs to be made into some us vs them type of discussion. Does it really make sense to compare a successful plumber with multiple crews to a successful tech exec and see what their earnings were over a 20 yr span :why:

Trades have industry swings like everything else, in fact I'm hearing more and more trades people talk about the impact the slow real estate market is having on them combined with less ppl doing renovations or maintenance type repairs due to belt tightening in a weak economy

Los Angeles County, California…
Black folks got fooled by our grandparents and great grandparents long time ago because we wanted to fight against the white man racism of “ you good with your hands , won’t you do jobs dealing with your hands”

We started abandoning mechanics, landscaping, home remodeling, etc etc because our parents and grandparents said “ I WANT YOU TO DO MORE THAN WORK WITH YOUR HANDS USE YOUR BRAIN””

I understand trying to work on wall street or google because we need to,, but today drive around your city and tell me how many of us u see doing landscaping and street construction and guarantee the numbers are low

I see more white construction guys in the hoods than brothers who actually live there and the white guys live 20 minutes away in the burbs

Another advantage I've noticed in the Trades is it's a lot easier to start your own business. And it's easier to do side / tax free work. In IT, you damn near need a whole HR / payroll dept and Support Techs day one.

:unimpressed:

Some IT work used to be like trades, alot of maintenence, side work

Dont think for a minute that trades can't also be replaced with AI and robotics

That said, eventually it should be stopped long before that, because this means your entire life will be controlled for you if you have no skills to take care of yourself, but this is another topic.

It's crazy how people can see these people have been lying to them their whole life and they just double down and say they are going to continue down the path of destruction and keep doing the same thing.

Knowing how to build your own community and not help them try to dominate the world is more important.

Artificial Intelligence is all about the European trying to lock the world into a subservient role and hand that world over to Satan.

People will always need a hair cut/style.

Very few people need a Six Sigma Scrum Master Programmer who's fluent in JavaScript, CSS, and COBOL. :mjlol:

They're trying to teach AI to manipulate molecules.

...to the level where you can be in mniddle of nowhere and say "Alexa, materialize a cell phone please" and the AI will take the minerals from the ground and manipulate the molecules of those minerals into a phone,

In my Bane voice:
With this ability you dont think little programmable nanites can shave your head?

It's all downhill from here because those jobs and 6 figure salaries aren't coming back. The next wave of outsourcing and immigration is gonna wipe out white collar workers. These people will then move to blue collar jobs collapsing that market.
:yeshrug:

The white-collar job market is frozen—now bartenders and baristas are seeing bigger wage growth than desk workers
