When Eric dikkerson first heard of the proposed rules change that would make it a penalty for an offensive player to utilize the crown of his helmet and deliver a blow outside of the tackle box, he went back to look at film of himself. There he was, delivering a blow, using the crown.

"I did it to protect myself," he said in an interview with CBSSports.com. "Sometimes I did it to deliver punishment. It's a violent game. "I think it's a bad rule. Mostly because it's a natural reaction. You'll never be abe to police it. Running backs have to be able to protect themselves and doing that is protecting yourself.

"You ever see two rams butt heads? (The real kind, not the Los Angeles or St. Louis variety). That's what happens in the NFL. It's a violent sport. You knock heads. Sometimes you use the crown of your head."

"The league is trying to take the violence out of the NFL," dikkerson explained. "That will never happen. What's next, take the stiff arm away?"

eric dikkerson ain't never lie:yeshrug:

This "let's get back to fundamentals" thing is bullshyt. Niqqas have been dropping their heads since the game started.

You can tell the dudes in here who've never played the game in their lives.

I played little league, high school and spent time at the university level as a walk on and coach little league now.

There is proper technique in football and it NEVER involves dropping your head. You think they were dropping their heads in the leather helmet era? Now players think they're invincible but they're actually using improper technique because the helmets make the injuries less severe. It's still not proper technique and it's completely unnecessary.

That's like saying it's impossible to fight without a gun. That only applies if the other guy has a gun or in this case, if other guys are dropping their heads. Like I said: Let's get back to the fundamentals.

I like the rule. Under no circumstance during a football game does a player ever need to drop his head. Helmets are for protection not be used as weapons. If they didn't have helmets would they be dropping their heads? Of course not. Let's get back to the fundamentals.

Yeah because they NEVER drop their heads in rugby.

GTFOH with this corny shyt breh.

BTW, it's only a matter of time before we see nikkas taking out knees, and we see ALOT more Marcus Lattimore scenes, and lawsuits on the basis of that. A dangerous sport is a dangerous sport. There are more wrong ways to play, and they should focus on that rather than stuff like this.

Have you ever played football? If so, when did a coach ever tell you to drop your head? In fact, that's pretty retarded. You certainly wouldn't do it without a helmet and the helmet is there for protection. It's not a weapon.

When have you ever seen a rugby player spear somebody head first? Stop lying. :rudy:

I understand the logical connection, but it's just altering the damn foundation and essence of the game at this point.

The logical part being "Defense can't lead with head/offense can't lead with head". But it's really playing the game on paper, which seems like something these owners feel fine in doing.

What makes me most sick is that this is the future of the league. These fukking corporate owners are just playing footy bally and were never fans of the game to begin with. It's all just business to them, it's nothing more than a number on a spreadsheet.

They don't care if they ruin the integrity of the game because they weren't fukking fans to begin with.

We need an online petition to do away with Goodell

breh the moment I saw him I knew he was bad for the game. We are witnessing the destruction of the NFL under this guys run.

15-20yrs from now people gonna be like, :wtf: happened to football, nobody watch that anymore

I mean it says right on the helmet to not drop your head downward as a spear

A coach doesn't tell you to drop your head. But if you drop your shoulders...the head and neck attached to it comes along with it.

When you're runnings drills through the machine where you cover the ball with both hands, you're leaning shoulder forward with the head being in front.

You can't police that.

People aint gonna stop watching, let's get that straight.

I can see numbers decline, but never to the level you mention. I know i`m sure you're exaggerating to prove the point though.

You know I thought the dude wasn't bad at first, but I literally can't recall one positive thing this guy has done.

Aside from further implementing replay and the no force-out rule, damn near everything has been fukking garbage.
