And then when Kanye was going through his little tough time, he went and stayed with Dame and Dame was backing him when people would go at Kanye. They've always supported each other. They shot a movie together a couple years ago too. I don’t know what happened with that though.

These labels never last long. So I think it's tough to say. Average Hip Hop "boutique" label with success usually doesn't stick around longer than 7-8 years. So they're not meant to last forever. They build up the value and then sell. I think Roc ended when it was supposed to. The only thing working out at the time they sold, was Kanye. I don’t think there was an issue with letting Dame do what he wanted. It was a matter of loyalty and being real about the plans. Jay worked out a deal to get Biggs and Dame out of there, where he could still oversee the label and other labels under Def Jam.

Problem is, he worked this deal out with the same people who had beef with Dame. I think the label would've ended eventually anyway, so going about it that way was mad shady.

I love Jay's music, but he's definitely driven by bread. Money comes first with him, a lot of the time. He knew what R. Kelly was doing with the pedo thing, but that was a decent check for him back then, so he was willing to look the other way. Did a couple albums with dude, and tried to tour too. When Beans was on trial, he asked Jay to come speak on his behalf because the judge said that would help him, to back him and his whereabouts. Jay said no because it's not a good look for him, lol. Dame and Biggs showed up to court everyday.

Jay said Beans was bad for business. Jay is all about Jay. That's my dude, but that's who he is.

I'll never forget listening to the Come Up Show with Cosmic Kev & Qdeezy on Power 99 in Philly back in 2002 when the album dropped and they were interviewing Dame Dash.They asked him about the Best of Both Worlds album and he said he had nothing to do with it because he hurt someone he was close with.......I thought that was odd but we all knew he was talking about Aaliyah so it said a lot about Jay-Z that he was still willing to do a whole album with R. The internet killed most of State Property pre-breakup. Dame ruined Freeway's album rollout too. That Allen Anthony joint is the perfect semblance of what went wrong. Dame spread the money too thin when in reality the internet forced smart execs to focus the money on the breadwinners. It's why Kanye survived, but the rest disappeared. 50 had a big impact too, but Dame didn't necessarily realize it.

The Roc was due for a split, it was simply a matter of when. I don't think Dame would've ever been ready for it.
