As a child, Pun was involved in a playground accident, and he received a financial settlement stemming from the accident in his teen years. In 1990 — with a little money in his pocket — he married his high school sweetheart, Liza. The pair would have three children together. Still, even with the settlement, and even with the budding family, Pun seemed to have his demons. He began overeating to the point that he couldn’t tie his own shoelaces. Just as he was building a lyrical repertoire that would fiercely challenge any fan’s intelligence, Pun was gorging himself on food to numb the stress of his childhood and now familial responsibilities.

An even uglier incident would occur soon after, as a video showing Pun smacking his wife with a gun made the rounds. It all highlighted the inner turmoil that Pun was still experiencing, lingering from the childhood trauma — his mother’s drug addiction, and his father’s death — that contributed to his weight ballooning up to almost 700 pounds. Pun would try to drop the weight, by some accounts even losing 80 pounds at one time, but it would pile back on soon after.
