Who doesn't understand it? Of course you still have to work when you have the money but the rest are not getting this opportunity, asking ppl to work harder when they have a very slim chance at getting to step one is stupid.

SV is also a white dominated field that has been fighting for diversity for over a decade and still struggling. Worst example you can bring up, lol.
The point is money to start doesn’t equal success, whether you want to rule out SV or not.

Every billionaire kid hasn’t gone on to make their own billions, money is just one part of the equation. It need to stop being used as a crutch to knock these dudes who end up building something that makes them a multi billionaire.

No one here is arguing this, we are arguing it is much easier to achieve that if that is your starting point, which is true. Comparing a normal individual to someone like Dan Gilbert is stupid.

The billionaire kid who fails will still live the billion dollar life. Regular people don't get to fail, rich kids like Dan Gilbert can fail several times.

You asking normal people to achieve the same without the same money, resources, and opportunity to fail is unrealistic.

Bringing up someone had a much easier route is not a knock, it is reality.

Not sure why this is so hard for people to understand.

Just bc some white ppl fail to do anything with their white privilege, doesn't mean they don't have it much easier with their white privilege, and said priviledge shouldn't be called out.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/07/22/black-entrepreneurs-venture-capital/

In the clubby world of venture capitalists, who spent $130 billion in the United States last year and helped anoint the world’s four most valuable companies and countless other successful start-ups, there is effectively no legal backstop that ensures people of color have an equal opportunity to share in its wealth creation. In general, they don’t. Only 1 percent of venture capital money goes to companies founded by black entrepreneurs, according to a Silicon Valley Bank study.

More than a dozen black entrepreneurs, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, said in interviews that deeply ingrained racism plays a role in the low levels of funding for black entrepreneurs.
Several entrepreneurs described being mistaken for delivery workers when they arrived for scheduled pitch meetings with venture capitalists.

In one group of black tech employees who share stories online, an entrepreneur described being asked by a venture capitalist to “tone down the black,” according to a member of the group who described it to The Washington Post. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the group is private.

"Tone down the black" :heh:

Separate issue with the same moral: remember that Pigford vs Glickman shyt in the early '00s? Imagine telling a black farmer they just need to "work harder" and use the system, as if the US Department of Agriculture wasn't blatantly denying farm loans to blacks throughout the 80s and 90s.

Blacks had to work harder by filing a class action lawsuit :dead:
Unfortunately the legal system is much murkier when it comes to VCs. So, as always, it's a multifaceted problem to overcome for blacks.

Lol you really believe this?

:dahell: yes

The media likes to paint Jeff bezos as this rags to riches story like he came from nothing.

this dude quit his job to drive cross country from NY to Seattle, and got a $300K loan from his parents.

the average black person cant afford to just quit their job and move across the country with no other job already in place.

and fewer have parents who’ll give them $300K

what world do you live in?

300k loan aint shyt.. My friend got 300k when his father died and then he got killed because he used that money to start a street war. Money don't = success it's your mind state.. The same time Bezos was getting a 300k loan, Mike Tyson was worth 300m.. You see how the tables turned?
