i didnt like black messiah too tough. it felt a bit.... convoluted and lacked that classic d'angelo swag
my fav is still his first..... though one mo gin off & the line off voodoo are amazing

I know what you mean, and I could like it if you would expound on this point, but I raise you
It's taken me a while to fully grasp and understand the groove on this album, but it's everywhere ... the swag is in all the new territories he explored ... that bass in 1000 deaths, the opening to The Charade, I ain't ever heard D play piano like in Sugah Daddy, the lady, Spanish guitar in Really Love, the Rhodes caressing the whole song ... I ain't even gonna get on Back To The Future lord have mercy.
D is doing some DIFFERENT sh*t on this album, the swag is a lot more dense and deeply rooted definitely...
For those who care, I was able to find a recording of one of D’Angelo’s Voodoo Tour shows (Live at the Amplitheater) in my iTunes. It was backed up to iCloud. I uploaded it to the Google Drive under subcategory “Live Recordings”.

Had to rep OP for making it, such a timeless artist D'Angelo is...
I was introduced to his music back when Brown Sugar 1st dropped, was hooked like a crack fiend ever since. That CD got so many spins from me I had to buy it (& Voodoo) twice. Every track was magic, groovin, and soulful, his vocals just danced on top of and immersed into the funky production. SDM hit me and I was like how do make a song with a strange title sound so damn good? When We Get By nailed it with the underlying bass and sax to come in and finish it off. Higher felt like I just walked into church. The killer, was a variation of Cruisin... The Wet mix, only available on the maxi-cd single
This track smacked me down and dragged me through such laid back vocals with absolutely smoothness on the keys, I was a victim, all damn near 8 min of it. I remember playing this track for my ex she fell in love with it.
Voodoo was my drug though, I remember buying it when it 1st dropped, had my lil portable cd player w/headphones jammin the fukk out of this disc from 1st to last track, then over and over again. The unfinished theme was genuis, from the booklet artwork to the production on the songs. Every track was just infectious with funk and vocals. The Line, Send It On, One Mo 'Gin (my favorite), The Root, Africa, all just

Excited when Black Messiah dropped, hearing the final version of Really Love. The audio on D's vocals could use some adjusting on this album, however I do have a few favorites from it.
If I had to rate all three, it would be Voodoo, Brown Sugar, and then Black Messiah.
Also the work he does with other artist, him and Tony Rich knocked this tribute to Stevie out of the park.

He said that Black Messiah was D'Angelo's best album in his opinion. :D
