The only reason this works for kendrick is because they're willing to put all their marketting money behind him. Without he'll suffer the same fate as his comrades
Yep, seems to me like it all comes down to money. Top dawg basically got a loan from interscope. Seems to me he should be spending more than complaining on Twitter. Seems like a birdman type move to me where ceo don't want to spend money

The momentum TDE had from 2012-14 has declined alot....I can't even put it on the artists when they don't have much freedom to release music whenever they want. TDE pre-GKMC was dropping heat left & right, and everything was coming along organically which had the internet buzzing.

They went from being the Fantastic 4 to Kendrick Lamar & The Black Hippies in a sense. Schoolboy Q had his fair share of success too, but even he's been effected by poor management. Why spend so much time & energy trying to get sales off street single that may end up becoming a bonus track anyway? Groovy Tony is a cool song but it was never gonna set the world on fire. That shyt was for the hardcore TDE fans.

This abstract formula they got going over there....I don't understand it. Im not saying they should drop 100 mixtapes/albums every year and shyt like No Limit did, but they need to start flooding the game with all kinds of new music. I like how Future does things....He promotes his shyt on instagram/twitter, puts it out with no management team interfering and lets the people decide whats the hottest records and he makes them the singles. I feel thats what TDE should be doing with their artists.
I blame the artists, they dhould make better shyt. It's only so long fake stars can pretend.
When you have a faux, purchased buzz like kendrick then the general public is not going to be clamoring for you especially when you make duds.
See IMO there was a big ppush behind drake and nicki too.
HOWEVER,they showed up and made the people legitimately get behind them by making hits that really resonated with the people. Kendrick the "star" of this special ed class, had made alot of duds. And tried to hide behind the "i'm special,i dont just talk shyt and swag it out,hey hey look at me,judge me differently" approach and it might work in corny kdot stan arguments but the bottom line is he is not running the game like drake and that's bottom line.
So him and his squad are hurting. Once the interscope loan runs out,he will assume the role as a forgettable artist whom has dropped less memorable music than future, plies, gucci, big sean, wale ,asap etc cause the push will be no longer there to hold him up.

He trying to implement guilt as a strategy to increase sales?

:dahell:

nah I feel his pain. As a business owner, people ask for shyt all the time. In his case, people ask for music from his artists. He delivers on his end, but the fans dont support it on their end. He says they have 11 million followers. 10% of that would be 110k sales (and he probably wouldnt be complaining). Is asking for 10% of your followers support, for something that majority of them have probably been requesting, really that crazy? :usure:

In my business , people request we bring artists to the bay all the time, so now we do, but people complain about the higher costs to get in (to recoup the costs for the artist) or a lot still ask "can you get us in free" like how we supposed to bring artist here, if we not making money back then how can we support this ourselves ? :heh:

We as business owners, supposed to take huge financial losses that people requested, but then didnt want to support? :mjlol:

the thing is; he did not deliver on his part.

Fans ask/asked for good music. The song sucks and he still pulled off 24k (which Im sure is growing). Thats a lot for a song thats okay at best. He got over on the fans if anything in this case.

Thats like you bringing a mediocre artist into the mix. You can expect people to support just because its an artist; it actually has to be something they want.

Dreamville trying to be that next...

No one other than cole is going to sell on that label. None of them possess star qualities. I remember watching them on hot 97. They have no personalities. Bass is boring as hell, Cozz no one knows who he is, and Omen is probably the best rapper on the label and his first project was super dope back in 09 or 10 but they're marketing is even worst than TDE

yea whatever. Interscope spends more on Kendrick than TDE does. And he's popular enough to make it work. But I forgot nikkas still out here pretending like nobody likes Kendrick and he didn't go plat with a jazz rap album that doesn't have any radio singles.

I'll believe in his popularity when he does a tour parallel to his so called album sales

Not sure why he expects the social media followers to be die hards and support when TDE isn't really treating them as anything more than an ATM to hit up when albums come around.

- I just looked at Kendrick/Q's twitter/instagram. It's 95% "here's my single/album and a link to buy it". The other 5% is Q recently posting on instagram, but it's basically surrounding his upcoming album. There's no connection with fans there at all.

- They actively shun streaming and try to funnel their fans into purchasing physicals only, but I bet 90% of their fans stream a majority of their time. They actually should be ENCOURAGING streaming so they dominate Spotify/Tidal charts ... besides it's easier to chart Billboard singles through streaming vs. physical single sales.

- They haven't made memories with their fans using live performance. Kendrick doesn't tour and Q only did small club dates for Oxymoron I think? Moreso than that, they really are dropping the ball and not creating a "movement" with like a TDE picnic/showcase in L.A. If Odd Future can book a carnival, I'm pretty sure TDE could book a multi-date L.A. showcase for their whole roster every summer.

- It's corny to say this, but streetwear has historically played a part with connecting the top acts in hip-hop to their fans. End of the day, diehard fans want to rep their #1 cultural influencer. From Wu Wear, to Sean John, to Roc-A-Wear, to (sadly) Shady/Aftermath, to Yeezy, to OvO, it's just another way to connect and monetize the fans. TDE has dropped the ball here also.

It's seems like they just wanna operate like an early 90s record company and sell physical albums and singles and not care that the music industry has had huge shifts in how fans/customers are choosing to consume and support the music they want to listen to ...
