Places all across America -- roads, parks, villages, lakes, you name it -- had 'Nikka' in their name. Old people protested when the names were changed -- but changed, they were. Thank god for the Civil Rights Movement.

I think homie's point is that Dan Snyder is NOT Native American, the Washington Redskins are not owned by Native Americans in the majority or the minority, so it's not the same as real Amerindians calling themselves that. It's outsiders doing it.

If Squaw Mountain can get a name change to honor the first Native American woman killed in combat, then it should be an easier deal to change the name of a sports team............ a name which isn't even the team's original name. It's like Snyder is doubling down on the stupid of keeping the confederate flag as part of Alabama's state flag, when it was never part of the original state flag. Same deal, but easier, even less important.


Change the team name. If they want to keep the Amerindian motif, then choose the name of one of the indigenous peoples of the area. Any of them still around, or did they all get wiped out?

Not the same. A black high school team would never call their team the nikkas. We know this.
Some of the Native American run high schools used the Redskins name for their teams.

I know that Snyder isn't Native American. Neither are most of the people talking about this right now.

So since that is true, what we all need to realize is A bunch of white people who are not even Native American like to claim they are

Not true to both. Especially the first one. Snyder is a giant a$$hole. The local newspapers and journalists don't like him. Even his neighbors don't like his ass. That's not changing after a name change.

And Snyder is going to make money regardless. Even though the Redskins have been below mediocre ever since he took over as owner of the team, he made the Redskins a top 3 profitable franchise only behind the Cowboys and Patriots. And that was done with the team still having the name "Redskins".

White man calls Native Americans redskins, Native Americans are humiliated/degraded and virtually annihilated. Some embraced the word. Most did not. Now you see the name being taken away from schools and other locations. Protests will continue until the name of the Redskins is removed, but they are still a small percentile of the Nation today. They need others help.

Its an uphill battle for the Natives because, they still live in a country that glorifies Christopher Columbus every year, and celebrates Thanksgiving among other things. The native americans are constantly disrespected but yall wanna continue to define whats offensive for another racial group, and claim its acceptable because a small percentage of them use the name in their schools or businesses
