I’m dying reading all these responses acting like this is something that Nets did to him, or that this is some rash decision.

There is zero chance this is a recent decision. His was clearly a well kept secret going back a ways.

There is no way a Woj bomb drops about maybe he wants to retire to 2 hours later he has, his replacement is hired and they are looking for a new coach :russ::russ::russ:
I know it’s fukk Bill Simmons but he called it a month before the playoffs
Also called that besides tatum nobody that was in the starting line up this years playoffs is staying

basically Marcus smart is gone

My Pops Forever RIP
People hyped up the Celtics having the brightest future after getting those Brooklyn Picks. Years later and Brooklyn has 3 of the best scorers of all time and the Celtics are changing their coach and GM.
Funny how shyt works

Part of it is bad luck, but Ainge I think woulda gave all his assets up for Anthony Davis and when Davis curved the Celtics, the dream was dead. It also didn't help that he had all these assets and really couldn't convert them to a superstar outside of Kyrie. He got spoiled with the Brooklyn picks landing at 3 and 1 and figured he had other team's picks and they'd hit the same way those picks did. He had a Sacramento first and a Grizzlies unprotected first and thought they'd give him a top pick and when neither did, it messed up the value of those picks.

They've had 3 first rounders in each of the last 2 drafts on top of having a truckload of 2's and they didn't turn into much. The drafts didn't turn out as deep and teams weren't looking to blow up their teams and totally start over off the strength of one draft. His warchest of assets depreciated on him.

He found it easier to coach in the NCAA where he could have the clear upper-hand over a bunch of unpaid recruits than in the NBA where players don't have to put up with his bullshyt, is my guess on what that really means.

I wouldn't hire white coaches from college like Stevens or Bielein to coach an NBA squad. I think they get used to that top-down approach to coaching and struggle to adjust to some degree when black players in the NBA don't respond to it.

I'm not saying that white college coaches can't win games in the NBA, but I think it's a culture clash for them that they are not suited to in the long run.

Stevens ain’t really have those problems though...But it’s clear as day him and Ainge where not on the same page at all though...

I mean to be fair nobody knew at the time KD and Kyrie were going to Brooklyn and would then collude with Harden to join them. That's the game:manny:

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
The pump fake jokes are always funny, but lets look at the facts since he broke up the big 3 up until Horford, Kyrie and Gordon left:

2013: Traded Doc Rivers for a 2015 1st (RJ Hunter) - Bust, but still got a lotto ticket for his coach
2014: Drafted Marcus Smart - Win
2014: Traded Dwight Powell and Rondo for Jae Crowder, a 2016 1st (Guerschon Yabusele) and a $13 Million trade exception - Coin Flip
2015: Traded Jeff Green for a 2020 1st (Aaron Nesmith) - Early, but definitely a Win at the time)
2015: Traded Marcus Thorton and a 2016 1st (Skal Labissiere) for Isiah Thomas - Win
2015: Drafted Terry Rozier - Win
2016: Drafted Jaylen Brown - Win
2016: Signed Al Horford - Win
2017: Signed Gordon Hayward - Win
2017: Traded Markelle Fultz for Jayson Tatum (1st for 3rd) and Romeo Langford (2019 1st) - Win
2017: Signed Aaron Baynes and Daniel Theis - Wins
2017: Traded IT, Jae and Collin Sexton (2018 1st) for Kyrie Irving - Win, even thought Kyrie didn't work out.
2018: Drafted Robert Williams - Win

Like, I dunno what people expect out of a GM, but I don't see a lot of fails in there. Hayward got hurt, left for more money, Hordford left for more money, and he cashed in on Kyrie who chose not to stay. I get not being thrilled with how he tried to build this roster around the talent exodus, but that's a pretty baller track record in my mind.

looks like Romeo nesmith and Pritchard were wins too

but I blame Danny for a lot since the kyrie trade
